About Alvaro Álvarez Montero:
As an international resident in the United Kingdom, I think of myself as a very social and engaging person who is always ready to learn new things, especially about the culture that enriches the Aberdeenshire region. This country gave me the chance of rediscovering myself as a passionate person who is always ready to give back.
Over the last few years, I had the opportunity of developing technical, scientific and professional transferable skills through my current job and university research. Thanks to my recently obtained MSc in Genetics, I have learned the importance of health care and disease, and how it affects patients emotionally and physically. On the other hand, my experience in retail has taught me how to effectively communicate with people and listen to what they have to say, which I believe is an essential skill in health care. Working both as a customer assistant and as a production assistant has taught me the importance of teamwork and planning, assuring that my team and I can deliver the best experience to the people we serve.
I will demonstrate myself as a graduate capable of contributing to new ideas and expressing my point of view as a competent member thanks to my previously mentioned experience. Finally, my dream job has always been related to public healthcare, as I understand the importance of delivering the best service to patients. If patients feel like they are being heard, it means that we are doing our job correctly.
Experience
As of today, I have two jobs. My most recently obtained job is as a production assistant at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. My position is directly related to the catering service which provides food to the patients at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. My shifts consist of the preparation and delivery of each individual menu. At the end of the day, we have to pick all the trolleys containing the meals, discard the waste appropriately, and clean all the cutlery and dishes according to the NHS protocols.
My other job is as a customer assistant at Vue cinema, where I have been working since August 2021. My duties in this cinema have taught me how to effectively communicate with people and listen to what they have to say, which I believe is an essential skill in any job. I had to keep up with the latest cinema releases to provide the best experience to customers. I also learned about the importance of teamwork and planning, which assures that my team and I can deliver the best experience to the people we are serving.
Education
Over the last few years, I had the opportunity of developing technical, scientific, and professional transferable skills through my current job and university research. Thanks to my recently obtained MSc in Genetics, I have learned the importance of health care and disease, and how it affects patients in an emotional and physical way. Between my third and honours year, I had the opportunity to gain further laboratory experience by undertaking a research placement at the Centro de Biología Molecular, located in Madrid. Through my university years, I have also become a proficient user of all Microsoft packages, including Excel and Word. I consider myself a fast and proactive learner, and I will commit to carrying out further independent learning to master the other packages used in the department.
