About Amanda van den barg:

A UK-based storyteller. Strategist. Occasional grammar nerd. With 16 years spanning journalism, freelancing, and corporate content management, I bring creativity and structure in equal measure. I’ve built SEO-friendly websites, crafted campaigns that got people talking, and turned complicated ESG reports

into copy people enjoy reading. Whether it’s social, print, or digital, I believe content should create connection, not just tick a box. Curious, a little quirky, and endlessly collaborative, I’m all about humanising brands, and making their audiences feel something.

Experience

Most recently, I led content at Growthpoint Properties, South Africa’s largest property company. In that role, I shaped everything from corporate communications to crisis comms, digital and print ad campaigns, and sustainability storytelling. I grew engagement across social channels, designed staff training programmes to spark advocacy, and partnered with teams across HR, Investor Relations, and Sustainability to keep messaging consistent and human. I also built measurement frameworks to prove ROI, collaborated with agencies, and made sure every piece of content felt relevant.

Before that, I spent seven years as a freelance writer, creating features for leading B2B magazines and digital platforms. It taught me how to listen closely, find the story that matters, and tailor it for different audiences. The two years I spent as a senior journalist before that gave me my newsroom instincts: curiosity, accuracy, and the ability to make a deadline no matter what.

Now, I’m focused on creating content that feels alive, not just polished words on a page. I love experimenting with format and medium, whether that’s transforming data into a story worth sharing, finding the human angle in a corporate announcement, or building a social campaign that makes people stop scrolling. For me, the best projects are the ones that blend strategy with creativity, where a spark of an idea turns into something that actually moves people.

Education

Studies towards a BA Joutnalism, and have certificates in creative writing, Design Thinking and Copywriting for AI
