About Amy Rawlins:

My passion for psychology stems back to my teenage years where I spent most of the time observing people’s way of behaving and the reasons behind it. I was the “observer” rather than the “talker”. Now, I would like to think that I have developed a healthy balance between the two. I find myself drawn to analysing people’s behaviours, reactions, and understanding the reasons behind them. Essentially, I try to envision their perspectives. This way of thinking entails the development of a powerful skill: empathy. Empathy is intrinsic to comprehending psychological theories and models. It is also considered to be one of the most important core competencies of psychology practice.

Born and brought up in France up until the age of 18, I am very fortunate to be a fluent english-french bilingual speaker. This has allowed me to fully embrace both cultures and facilitated the access to their educational systems.

I bring dedication, a strong work ethic, and bilingual proficiency to the clinical and health field which can make me a valuable addition to your team after completion of my postgraduate degree this coming September.

Experience

My professional experience targets a variety of age groups as well as people with diverse mental and physical disabilities. This allowed me to adapt to each individual appropriately and embrace various cultures. Working in a nursing home within a multidisciplinary team, I dealt with a spectrum of duties encompassing administration, commercial relations, and the provision of emotional support. This experience not only honed my active listening, effective communication, and problem-solving skills, but also strengthened my resilience and empathetic traits, particularly under difficult circumstances. Additionally, my commitment extended to volunteering for an association supporting children with autism spectrum disorder achieve meaningful social learning experiences whilst promoting cerebral development. Engaging in hands-on person-facing activities and writing-up sessions in summative reports enhanced my situational awareness, adaptability, but also sharpened my exceptional communication skills both oral and written.

Education

After highschool, I went on to pursue my studies in Scotland doing a Master of Arts in Psychology at the University of Aberdeen. For this degree, I obtained a high 2:1. This laid out the foundations of theories and concepts as well as psychological assessment and research. Currently completing a MSc in Applied Clinical Psychology and undertaking a role as a research apprentice at the University of Bath, I have further enhanced my knowledge of psychological research and clinical practice.
