I like to spend my time getting up to date with the latest technologies when I can, all the while developing my existing skills even further. I am passionate about developing applications that remain easy to maintain throughout their lifecycle. This is a tricky proposition for most companies, and I believe development teams everywhere should be encouraged to write tests upfront.

I worked as the primary backend developer on a project for KCOM, an extensive news and blog website. Primary responsibilities included developing and maintaining content management systems built upon Umbraco CMS. The main challenge was to provide sorting and searching of the content on the site in such a way as to potentially handle the sorting and searching of many thousands of posts efficiently as the site grows. This was achieved by extending Examine, which Umbraco uses internally.

During my second year, one of my lecturers put me forward for a student developer position at the University's New Technology Institute. I worked part-time at NTI whilst I completed my second-year studies and only moved on once I had to take up my placement for my third year at MadeByPi.
