About Ayobami Adeyemi:
Throughout my career, I have amassed valuable experience providing health and safety (H&S) advice and support in large and diverse organizations, ensuring the well-being of employees across various sectors. In my role as Health and Safety Advisor at NAFDAC, a multinational drug and food agency, I encountered numerous challenges that required innovative solutions and collaborative efforts.
One such example involved assessing risks associated with the introduction of new manufacturing equipment across multiple facilities. Recognizing the need for a comprehensive risk assessment, I worked with a team of H&S professionals to identify potential hazards and develop practical control measures. By engaging with department heads and frontline workers, we gained valuable insights into the operational complexities and tailored our approach accordingly. Through this collaborative effort, we not only mitigated risks effectively but also optimized production processes, resulting in significant cost savings for the organization.
In addition to risk assessment, I have extensive experience in preparing safety-related policies and procedures to uphold H&S standards. At Asubiaro Hospital Complex, I led the revision of our confined space entry policy following a near-miss incident. Leveraging my expertise in policy development, I engaged with key stakeholders, including union representatives and regulatory agencies, to ensure alignment with industry best practices. Through constructive dialogue and negotiation, we successfully implemented the revised policy, enhancing safety protocols and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Experience
I possess a proven track record of resolving complex issues and developing practical solutions to address emergent challenges. In one instance, our manufacturing facility encountered a series of equipment malfunctions that posed significant safety risks to our workers. Using my problem-solving skills and technical expertise, I collaborated with maintenance engineers and production managers to diagnose the root cause of the issue. We recommended equipment upgrades and procedure improvements to the management and devised a comprehensive solution that not only resolved the immediate issue but also helped with the equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
In my professional capacity, I have also had to navigate sensitive situations involving individuals affected by accidents or incidents. Following a workplace injury as a Safety Maintenance Supervisor at a construction site, I provided immediate support to the injured employee and their colleagues, ensuring access to medical assistance and counseling services. I also facilitated open communication channels between management and staff, which resulted in a supportive environment for those affected by the incident. Through empathy, active listening, and effective communication, I helped alleviate concerns and rebuild trust within the team, emphasizing my team’s commitment to overall well-being.
In summary, my experience in providing H&S advice and support in diverse companies is characterized by proactive risk assessment, collaborative problem-solving, policy development, and compassionate crisis management. I am confident that my diverse skill set and proven track record make me a valuable asset to any organisation committed to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
