About Camilla Hanney:

Camilla Hanney (b. 1992) is an Irish artist living and working in London. She is a Graduate of Goldsmiths University Masters of Fine Art programme (2017-2019) and also Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (Visual Arts Practice 2010-2015). Since moving to London, her work has been exhibited by a diverse range of galleries including the South London Gallery in conjunction with Bloomberg New Contemporaries, No. 20 Arts, Muse Gallery, Dora House, Messums, Cynthia Corbett Gallery, The Rosenfeld Gallery and Cromwell Place Gallery. Camilla was the 2019/20 recipient of the Sarabande: The Lee Alexander Mcqueen Foundation studio bursary. She was granted the UK Young artist of the year runner up award at its inaugural award ceremony which was held at the Saatchi . She received the ‘Committee's Choice’ prize at ‘Exceptional’ an exhibition of recent graduate work at Collyer Bristow Gallery and was recipient of the zealous: Sculpture stories prize. dry. She was recipient of the  2022 Newbury Trust Craft Excellence Award in conjunction with Cockpit Arts and was chosen  for the 2022 Artist initiated projects in conjunction with the Irish arts council, granting her a funded solo show at Pallas Project Gallery, Dublin. Her most recent exhibition ‘A Common Thread’ was held in Linenhall Arts Centre, Ireland. Her work has been featured in articles by Ceramic Review, Crafts Magazine, Elephant Magazine, wallpapermag, Showstudio, Mission Mag and Harpers Bazaar.

  • House of Bandits - Burberry, Mayfair - Artist and designer takeover of Burberry’s vacant retail space in Mayfair during Frieze week 2020 - hosted by Sarabande Foundation. 
  • The Space Between - Galway, Ireland - an international lace exhibition Funded by Galway 2020 as part of the Small Towns Big Ideas programme for the European Capital of Culture and also supported by Design & Crafts Council Ireland
  • Rosenfeld Gallery From the Forceps to the StoneFitzrovia London - July 2020 - Group Show 
  • Sheroes in Quarantine- Lon-Art online exhibition dedicated to highlighting women's issues and roles during the COVID-19 social crisis and contributing to positive changes in our society, as always, from a gender perspective - May 2020
  • Swiss Church - In Nihlo -  In Nihilo is an exhibition and educational programme which reinvestigates Genesis creation myth in the contemporary context. This interdisciplinary group exhibition brings together six artists examining the idea of myth, artistic divinity, and environmentalism - March 2020.
  • In the Flesh -Sarabande: The Alexander Mcqueen Foundation Group Exhibition and workshops in conjunction with international women’s day curated by Charlotte Jansen, editor of Elephant Magazine - March 2020

2019

  • Backlit Gallery, Nottingham  - Catterntide Festiva- commissioned by UKYA to create an immersive installation exploring the importance of Nottingham Lace Archive and its social history. Project was  supported by the National Heritage Lottery Fund
  • NO 20 Arts - Bodies, Sex and Self invited to exhibit in a group show that presented different approaches to exploring the self and sexuality as oresented by nine different artists:  Steve Caplin, Eric Ceccarini, Karim Hamid, Ellie Howitt, Anish Kapoor, Lucy Neish, Lydia Pettit, Keith Roberts, James Tailor and Alison Watt, as well as ethnic African pieces.
  • Collyer Bristow Gallery - Exceptional -  Work selected by Kristian day to be exhibited in a group show of graduate artists across the UK.- Curated by Rosalind Davis 
  • Saatchi - Robert Walters and UKYA Awards Ceremony - work was showcased alongside nine other artists. 
  • Colab  - Body and Place Residency invited by Colab to spend one week in Stroud, Gloucestershire exploring both the body and the natural landscape through the medium of drawing. 
  • Tate Modern, Blatvinik Building - She Hears selected to participate in a storytelling event hosted by she performs.
  • Bloomberg New Contemporaries - exhibited work at South London Gallery and John Moores University as part of the Liverpool Biennial 

 

 

2018

  • Enclave Projects, Deptford-  In The Meantime  - group exhibition exploring the circled condition of time as a product of contemporariness - curated by Angelica Fajardo
  • Safehouse 1, Peckham - Efflorescenc- group exhibition that presented  work by current Goldsmiths MFA Fine Art students. Through installation, sculpture,  photography and mixed media, the artists subtly seduce and transformed, all sharing interest in the feminine ‘other’. 

2017

  • Light and Sound Takeover - Stratford Circus, London - work exhibited alongside Lauren Baker in a light, music and sound one night spectacle. 

2016

  • A4 Sounds Residency-  selected to participate in A4 sounds’ residency programme. The body of work and research that amounted from the residency was displayed in a solo show, Resurrecting Monuments to Moral Degradation  - September 2016 - January 2017
  • Future Europe-  selected alongside three other Irish graduates to participate in ‘future Europe’ a collaborative programme hosted by ELIA - The project invited European alumni to solve urban issues and engage in community building across Amsterdam using creative and innovative solutions

2015

  • Ormond Studios Recent Graduate Award - one month long residency culminating in a solo show- Gathering Dust- September/October 2015
  • Origins Exhibition - group show featuring the work of 11 artists selected from the undergraduate degree shows across Ireland in 2015-  Lismore Castle, Waterford - September 2015
