EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
After leaving college in 1983 I started work as a labourer on a building site.
After a few months I began an apprenticeship as an electrician at the
Celynon South Colliery Newbridge.Unfortunately this coincided with the
start of the miner’s strike. I could see the future of mining was unsure so I
applied to join Gwent Police whilst working as an apprentice.
I was successful and started working as a Police Officer on 2nd January 1985
where I remained for thirty years until my retirement on 31st January 2015.
Whilst serving as a Police officer I carried out various roles including
Uniform patrol, CID , PSU and for the last nine months of my service I
supervised a team of six colleagues dealing with the most prolific offenders.
My service record is unblemished and I received three bravery awards along
with many divisional good work awards.
Throughout my service I completed many varying training courses.
I am comfortable when dealing with members of the public as I have been
on the front line for the past thirty years. I have also completed a media
course and am comfortable speaking in front of audiences.
I am fully trained as an interviewer , investigator and am familiar with
computer systems.I have carried out numerous complex investigations involving interviewing
witnesses, suspect interviews, file preparation and presenting all relevant
evidence at Court.
I have a full clean driving licence.
I can work as part of a team or as an individual. I am self motivated
outgoing and friendly. When presented with a task I carry it out punctually
and to the best of my ability.
For the next three years I worked as a Field Technician with
Polygon. My duties involve making an initial survey as to what water
damage or fire damage there is at a premises. I then recommend what is
required to return these properties to their original state. I use video and
photographic evidence to support these recommendations and make a
written report to Insurer’s. I then install equipment if required, itemise and
remove damaged goods to assist in the restoration and when fully restored
issue certificates to Insurance companies. I work mostly alone but am part
of a small team of 9 throughout Wales that help each other out when
necessary.
I am currently employed as a Professional Lead with RCTCBC Track and trace with daily responsibilities supervising 10 staff ensuring all current procedures are complied with
I recognise the importance of fairness at work and have successfully
completed numerous diversity courses. Indeed I was appointed Diversity
champion whilst stationed at Blackwood Police station.
