About Claudine Gerbais:
Claudine Gerbais
Personal profile
I have been working in education since 1997, throughout this period of my career I've approached all roles with a lot of passion and have been able to adapt my skills to the evolving needs of children in education, such as SEN and EAL. I have also been able to adapt to the different educational environments of both state and private schools I have worked in and have gained an understanding of their different priorities. I believe my empathetic approach and effective use of communication has enabled me to fully support the students I've worked with and build their confidence. Whilst supporting children in learning I have always strived to make my time with them engaging and inductive, with students at the centre of their own learning. I have a strong understanding of the curriculum and work closely with the teacher in monitoring their progress and ensuring the learning is effective. While working in Notre Dame and Talbot I developed an insight into the importance of community within a school. I have implemented this in my more recent roles by setting up Coffee Morning for EAL Parents in order to encourage their inclusion. I have a lot of experience in planning and conducting group/one to one intervention with various specialities such as: phonics (Read and Write/ Little Wandle), English and social skills. I can take an independent approach in my work, which I have been able to demonstrate by covering the classroom during PPA time and also by leading the EAL department.
Whilst completing my CELTA course I was able to develop a more technical understanding of the teaching process and this has enabled me to be more specific in certain areas of my work and widen my skills, in particular in teaching grammar and vocabulary.
I have been working in education for over 15 years and I continue to feel inspired and rewarded by helping students progress and seeing their confidence grow. Education is a constantly adapting work environment and I feel motivated by the progression this allows me. I am a very sociable person and I enjoy working with different types of people. I have a very co-operative approach to my work and I always consider how I can benefit the wider school community.
I am a very outgoing person who enjoys taking part in different group activities, such as yoga classes and paddle boarding. I have a natural interest in languages, I'm currently attending Spanish classes, I also enjoy creative subjects and enjoy spending my free time on crafting activities or going to music events. I am most proud of the progress I have been able to make in my career since moving to England as a non native speaker.
What working through the pandemic has taught me is that family time and work life balance is extremely important, with my youngest leaving the home to continue her education at University I am taking this as an opportunity to return to Bournemouth to be with my eldest daughter and my grandchild.
