About Daniel Eglinton:

I am currently nearing the end of my Masters in TV Journalism at City University. As part of this course, I have gained experience in pitching, shooting and editing news stories as part of a weekly TV News programme, as well as producing and editing social and digital videos of these stories. In addition to this, I also gained invaluable experience in documentary research and production.

I am also an experienced presenter - having shot several vox pop style street interview adverts for different brands.

Prior to changing career, I worked as a child protection social worker for 5 years. This work experience informs my work today and my keen interest in covering social issues. I am particularly passionate about LGBTQI+ issues, given I am a proud member of this community.

Alongside social work, I also worked for a domestic violence organisation . I delivered workshops in a group setting, working with perpetrators of domestic violence and abuse. This experience partly informs the solo theatre show I am currently developing, which is called MANBOX. Work-in-progress versions of this show have been performed at Camden People's Theatre and I'm looking forward to continuing to develop this over the coming months.

WORK HISTORY

Turquoise TV (Work Placement) January-April 2024

At Turquoise, I pitched documentary ideas before researching these, contacting potential contributors and putting together pitch documents that were later presented to TV commissioners. I worked hard to ensure my treatments for programmes were accurate, comprehensive and informative. I also conducted my own Freedom of Information requests in relation to one of the programmes I was working on, analysing and packaging the data afterwards in a way that was comprehensible and easy to understand.

CityNews (Student) September 2023 -June 2024

While studying my MA in TV Journalism, I regularly pitched, shot and edited news packages for our weekly TV News programme – as well as accompanying digital pieces for TikTok, Instagram and Twitter/X. I also acted as an on-screen reporter or news anchor, delivering pieces to camera and/or working with an autocue. In addition to this, I learnt documentary production skills, taking an active role in researching, pitching, filming and editing 2 different documentary programmes.  This included ‘Safe Here’ – a 28 minute film highlighting LGBTQI+ people’s experience of the UK asylum system.

Hardcash Productions (Work Placement) 2023

I worked for Hardcash Productions as part of a 10-week work experience placement. During my placement I: Researched stories, statistics and persons of interest for the company’s programmes in development, found original sources for user generated content; collated information and data to inform Freedom of Information Requests for use in their programming.

Social Worker (Various Local Authorities and Organisations) 2018-2023

Prior to changing career, I worked predominantly as a Child Protection Social Worker. I was employed within various local councils and agencies within London. This involved:

- Working within a statutory context, providing support to families known to services due to concerns around the children being at risk of significant harm – whether due to physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, neglect or other factors.
- Completing a variety of different written assessments including Social Work Evidence for court proceedings and legal hearings – as well as presenting this evidence in a wide variety of contexts. This required in-depth analysis of complex information, strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to make balanced and defensible decisions relating to outcomes for children.
- Engaging with people from all different walks of life, building strong relationships and managing difficult conversations when working alongside families who are in crisis.
- Working with a full case load of up to 25 children at any given time- this required effective management of competing priorities and timescales in order adhere to statutory timescales
