About Daniel Hirschowitz:
A highly motivated and driven individual striving to forge a career as an energy engineer in renewables. Due to my studies, travels, and experience witnessing the impacts of climate change, I have developed a passion for sustainability and increasing our global production of energy derived from net zero carbon technologies.
I am adaptable and versatile; realised from the various roles I have excelled in during my professional life. I am organised and can cope well under pressure, being trusted to manage high tier clients and being involved in project management of high value projects during my four years as a consultant within the energy trading industry. And I am committed to success, highlighted by my First-class masters honours obtained in Chemical Engineering.
Experience
2019 – 2023: Technical Consultant at Trayport Limited: Commenced a graduate programme at Trayport Limited, a financial technology company in London that provide bespoke energy trading software to clients all around the world.
- Consulted with clients across the globe for their optimal use of the software provided.
- Delivered global energy trading training sessions, needing clear communication to deliver across various language barriers. Required thorough knowledge to demonstrate and upsell products, such as aggregated trading screen and API connectivity to trade commodities and carbon credits.
- Project management of high value and highly sensitive projects, involving management of internal teams, liaising with external clients and ensuring project deadlines were met.
- Developed Microsoft SQL queries for charting and data investigations.
- Mentored, trained and managed a graduate team.
- Managed and co-ordinated responses to critical incidents. Maintaining active client communications.
- Progressed to client management of high value companies such as Centrica. Supported the clients and championed their desires for changes or bespoke software additions.
2018 –2019: English Tutor in Italy at Educo: Trained and taught English at camps across all of Italy.
- Created camps structures and managed daily activities.
- Led a team of tutors to design, organise and deliver activities.
- Planned and delivered high quality lessons on a variety of English grammar or vocabulary theory, tailored for differing ages of children with a wide distribution of English proficiency.
- Led meetings with other camp stakeholders to identify improvements for the camps.
- Awarded TEFL certification.
This job enhanced my leadership and teamworking abilities greatly. Furthermore, it developed my communication skills because of the need to overcome language barriers for effective communication.
2017 – Process Engineer Intern at Phillips 66: During the summer of 2017, I completed an industrial placement at Phillips 66 Humber Refinery as a process engineer.
- Monitored daily the heavy distillates and coking section of the process plant.
- Analysed data to identify any deviations in measurements from normal operating behaviour.
- Produced and presented reports on the results of my analyses.
- Examined the environmental impacts of the refining process and identified sustainability opportunities to meet decarbonisation targets.
- Investigated process optimisation of coke produced during batch processing, including statistical analysis, chart extrapolation to maximise product yield.
- Annotated P&IDs to locate process instrumentation and equipment.
- Calculated values to adjust the alarms setpoints, to improve the inherent safety of the process plant.
- Involved in full HAZOP reviews.
Education
2014 – 2018: Newcastle University: First class master’s honours in Chemical Engineering with specialist master’s modules in Sustainability. Academic projects undertaken include:
- Tested and studied a novel material as a chemical looping catalyst to produce hydrogen. Analysed reaction efficiencies, explored thermal degradation properties and assessed economic feasibility.
- Created a sustainability campaign and completed environmental assessments for the construction and operation of a new sugar cane refining plant.
- Worked as a team to design, size and cost a natural gas refinery to convert natural gas into LNG. Used engineering and material science principles and AutoCAD software in creating graphic representations of the process and ancillary units.
- Applied principles of engineering to design a complex heat exchanger network.
- Studies in Heat Transfer, Fluid dynamics, Process Control, Process Optimisation and Intensification, Thermodynamics, Sustainable development, Sustainable Industry, Separation Processes.
- Achieved Newcastle University Engineering Bursary award for outstanding results.
A-Level results: A, A, A in Chemistry, Physics and Maths.
