Arts / Entertainment / Publishing
About Dominic Hughes:
I am a Theoretical Physics with Mathematics graduate from Lancaster University. I have spent the last 2 years working on and improving my programming knowledge and skills, in the hopes of building a career in the video games industry.
I've always had a passion for video games. I also have a passion for problem solving, so a natural conclusion was to search for a career in video game development. Since the age of 12 I have been programming. It started with Java plug-ins for Minecraft, Python for all my university coursework, to making hobby games with all the free time that I have.
I realised, in order to fulfil my ambition to break into the video games industry; I needed to learn C++. After learning the basics, I started using Raylib and SFML – which allowed me to program my first few independent projects. This gave me the necessary skillset to start using Unreal Engine 5, to make a first-person web-slinging game.
My first Indie game, Rhythm of the Sea, is available in alpha on Itch.io. In making this game I collaborated with a multi-disciplinary team. I was the project manager and lead programmer, dealing with all feature requests from the designer & even designing some of the game art.
Since 2021, I have worked as a delivery driver for ASDA. This has allowed me to build skills in key areas, such as time keeping, inventory management, route planning, teamwork, and customer service.
Experience
I am an ambitious team-player who really enjoys solving problems and has a passion for video games. Having graduated from Lancaster University with a degree in Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, I can bring a new outlook to a team of developers. As a self-taught C++ programmer, I have worked on numerous game-related projects and have worked with tools such as Unreal Engine and SFML. I currently have my first indie title, "The Rhythm of the Sea" available to play in Alpha.
Education
I have a degree in Theoretical Physics and Maths from Lancaster University.
I am a self taught C++/Unreal Engine programmer, and have completed multiple game dev courses on Udemy.
