About Elizabeth Moore:

I recently returned from travelling around India and South East Asia and I am now eager to embrace a career that utilises and develops the many skills and genuine interest that I have in Environmental issues and Sustainability. I am a self-motivated, proactive and reliable individual and I have taken every opportunity to maximise exposure to my areas of interest including working as a Green Consultant whilst at university. I have a strong and adaptable inter-personal skillset that is demonstrated through my work in a refugee project in France, as a Telethon call-handler and through extra-curricular courses designed to develop my knowledge of the investment industry and my IT skills.

Experience

My interest in ESG led me to enrol on an extra-curricular project where I worked for a client whose remit was to identify the most suitable activity-based carbon databases currently available on the market to measure their Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. This project involved researching various software such as SimaPro and enhanced my knowledge of standards and protocols such as the ISO standards, Life Cycle Assessment (performed according to ISO 14044 and ISO 14040), and the GHG protocol. The project also comprised of a training course, which covered technical skills in sustainability and legislative industry standards such as BREEAM and ISO14001, project management and auditing. This experience has strengthened my research and analytical skills, and presentation skills in the context of driving improvements in clients’ sustainability practices.

My participation in the ‘Future 17: Sustainable Goals Challenge’  involved working remotely in a team with students from universities across the world for Logistics Champions, who help logistics startups sell their products to corporations. We researched and identified startups and advised them on how they should improve their SDG standing to promote growth and build customer trust. Our recommendations included actions such as green marketing, carbon offsetting, partnering with sustainable suppliers and promoting a culture of sustainability by setting goals and targets for employees. This required business analysis, qualitative research and presentation skills as well as strong teamwork skills to work as effectively as possible with team members on different time zones.

In addition to my interest in sustainability, I have, for some time, been interested in financial services and completed the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) Level 2 Award in Fundamentals of Financial Services. I have also attended a short course in Investment Banking at University College London. Collectively, these courses have given me knowledge of banking and financial services. I believe that together with my knowledge and experience working in ESG, I am well equipped to make a valuable contribution to the integration of ESG into investment strategies.

I have also developed other skills through my degree and internship as a Sustainability Consultant, such as strong analytical and research skills, and attention to detail. Given the length of my 12,000-word dissertation, which included both quantitative and qualitative analysis, I was required to be meticulous in reviewing and organising a large volume of data to construct a coherent and well-structured argument. Furthermore, during an internship I conducted research into the company’s environmental and sustainability practices to assess how they can improve their sustainability strategies. This required interpreting ESG data from various sources and effectively communicating the technical information to a non-technical audience.

Education

My degree programme has given me strong research and analytical skills and the ability to look at data to identify trends, themes, and future impacts. Through specifically selecting modules such as the Geographies of Science, Society and Environmental Risk, Innovation for Global Urban Challenges and The Challenges of World Politics in the Twenty-First Century, I have been able to apply my interest in climate change, sustainability, and politics, and enjoyed studying the environmental impact of human and economic behaviour across different geographical contexts. My degree programme was also heavily essay-based which, (along with my A-Level subjects) has helped develop my writing skills to a high level. I recently achieved a high 2:1 in my 12,000-word dissertation.
