Time to Act Cardiff University. Fighting for Survivors of Sexual Violence in Higher Education
Time to Act Cardiff is a project I have been working on alongside Becca Rumsey and Bethia Thomas. Becca and Bethia created an AGM motion for Cardiff Student's Union that challenged Cardiff University to act upon sexual violence taking place on its campus. Within this motion, my work and policy that I created as Women's Officer was referenced as a guideline for policy.
My role within this group has been helping craft policy and muster public engagement.
For months I have worked alongside BBC Reporter Rowenna Hoskin to report on sexual violence at the University and obtain Freedom of Information Requests [FOIs] that provides data showing system failures.
With the release of the article and the data, I co-created an instagram post that addresses the data as well as the horrendous situation at Cardiff University. The article has been viewed by nearly 1 million people and the instagram post has surpassed 2,500 likes. With countless organisations re-sharing and supporting our work.
I have given TV interviews on this matter and the work done. Working with Cardiff based papers such as Gair Rhydd, The Tab and Quench to get this story out.
We are, at present, involved in negotiations with Cardiff University. I have written proposals for terms of a deal, liaised with high-profile political figures and influencers as well. I am proud to be part of a team of young adults who are both silence breakers and change makers.
I cannot wait to see what we achieve together for Survivors of the past and Survivors of the present.
