Experience
CARDIFF STUDENT’S UNION. CARDIFF, UK
August 2022 - July 2022
Women’s Officer of Cardiff Student’s Union
Cardiff Student’s Union represents over 33,000 students enrolled at Cardiff University. My role was to represent female students, promote the interests of marginalised students, lobby for change across the University and plan a range of campaigns.
- I developed and negotiated policy aimed at addressing the elimination of sexual violence on campuses. Engaging international audiences, organizations, and Nobel Prize winner Amanda Nguyễn. Collaborating with Cosmopolitan and BBC Wales covering the work being done.
- I networked with national and international groups resulting in the role being recognised in political circles and as a result have been invited to manage national events such as Reclaim the Night
- Introduced reforms, such as a shift establishing community forums, with a revitalised approach on matters like harm reduction and safety of Trans and Non-Binary students. My proposals have contributed to the introduction of drug testing kits and diversifying influential student forums such as Cardiff University’s Feminist Society.
EXPLAIN THE ASTERISKS. BURLINGTON, USA April 2022
Political Organiser, Policy Coordinator, and, Speaker
Explain the Asterisks is an American organisation working across the United States aiming to end college campus based sexual violence by centering survivor experiences and voices policy reform on campus, state, and federal levels. The University of Vermont has gained international attention for widespread sexual violence perpetuated by members of powerful Fraternities and athletes at the college.
- Co-organised a national walkout attended by over 1,000 students in under 2 weeks. I managed and liaised with representative organisations and working with local press. I also spoke at the event to rally attendees to support our proposals.
- I was part of the team that created a 5-year plan aimed at directly challenging the organisation’s handling of sexual and racial violence via preventative initiatives. I proposed that due to the strong presence and influence of this organisation, community members should hold annual meetings to discuss yearly progress, and this continues to take place.
RALEIGH INTERNATIONAL. PATISWARA, NEPAL February 2020- April 2020
Volunteer, Logistics, Health Educator, and, Team Coordinator
Raleigh International is an NGO that deploys young adults to remote areas across the world to facilitate community projects to create long-lasting positive impact.
- Deployed to live and work with local community to understand their priorities and cultural values. Through this engagement, I was responsible for managing a campaign for International Women’s Day event in the area to discuss gendered issues of violence, period poverty and sexual health.
- I worked with local communities and regional providers by managing logistics to direct healthcare supplies and construction equipment as part of taking the lead on WASH projects to improve access to clean water, improve health facilities and sanitation.
- Contributed to co-develop projects in partnership with local communities to achieve long term change.
