Emma Bruning
Home Services / Social Care
About Emma Bruning:
My motivation to work in this industry stems from a strong desire to work with those impacted by mental illness. I have witnessed, both personally and professionally the ways in which the system designed to support and treat those affected by living with mental health were let down by ineffective support and unstructured treatment. I am impassioned by a drive to create positive impact and support for those diagnosed with mental illness, and to better the lives of those who I believe deserve better from the system designed to help them. I am empathetic, dedicated, enthusiastic and driven and I believe that this combination of skills, academic investment and lived experience make me a unique applicant.
Experience
I am currently a progression coach in a young persons living facility looking for a role in Clinical Psychology. I am working predominantly with asylum seekers and victims of domestic abuse. The young people come from a range of backgrounds, and so as part of my role I provide trauma informed person centred care, taking into account differences in culture, religious beliefs and practices and so on. With a focus on cultivating positive helping relationships and supporting day to day life skills to promote independent living. The key aspects of my role are writing care plans, taking notes and writing reports, and working with their multidisciplinary care teams to ensure that they develop the necessary skills for independent living. Other aspects of the job include health and safety, building managment and office managment.
I also have experience working in mental health with a range of ages and diagnoses. I was able to build and maintain positive working relationships with them, whilst also writing effective mental health care support plans, managing medication, and ensuring that they were always being given as much freedom over their own care as possible. I have worked in high intensity situations. A key aspect of my development in this role was engaging with supervisions as well as seeking advice, encouraging self-reflection and personal development.
As well as this I have volunteered at Nightline, a suicide prevention hotline and listening service, as a listening Volunteer as well as the head of Fundraisong for Southwark and Lambeth MSsociety as wel as head of Volunteer relations/HR buisness partnet for Youth action UK.
Education
I have recently graduated from the University of West London with Merit in MSc Psychology (conversion).
