Experience

I am a qualified and registered Integrative Therapeutic Counsellor (just applying for  accreditation with the BACP.)  I have been qualified for 3 years and in that time I have worked with children, young people and adults with over 550 clients hours and experience.

I currently work in Private Practice face to face, online and phone and rent a quiet room in a local Well-being Centre.  I see a variety of clients presenting with childhood trauma, historic domestic abuse, depression, anxiety, self harm, relationship issues an.  I also volunteer at Bedfordshire Open Door counselling CYP from 13-25 years old, completing Initial Assessments, support client’s with neurodivergence, self-harm, trauma, domestic abuse, relationship issues, disordered eating, anxiety, low self-esteem and suicide ideation.  In addition to this I volunteered at Carers in Bedfordshire Charity counselling adults who are carers, this has included domestic abuse, self-harm, loss, grief, ambiguous grief, low self-esteem, self-care, relationship problems- in particular Mother-daughter relationships and anxiety.  For 18 months I also worked in a Secondary School counselling 11-18 year olds.

Although I am integrative the person-centered approach is at the heart of what I do and who I am and that includes my teaching style as a CPCAB  Level 2 and 3 Tutor.  I often use psychodynamic, existential and psychoeducation to support my clients and use creative techniques tailored to their individual needs, for example I use clay, sand tray and art-based interventions.  I am able to work face to face, online or by telephone and have 80 hours+ training in this.

For over 25 years I have taught primary and secondary children and supported them in a pastoral role too. I have led staff wellbeing sessions in school and planned and led an active listening skill’s workshop to over 40 staff members Diocese of St Albans Multi-Academy Trust in person.  Being a teacher, I also understand the demands of the job and how it can impact one’s mental and physical health.

I have a real interest in working with trauma, somatic work using the Polyvagal model, grief and loss.
