Emma Porter

Animal care student looking for part time work and experience. Previously worked in the Television industry so I have vast experience dealing with the public in a variety of sensitive and fast paced environments. My last two roles in television were on a veterinary and wildlife programme which led me to pursue a career change and follow my passion for animals.

I am currently studying to pursue a career change. through my course I have gained experience caring for a variety of small animals from mice, snakes to birds. The course also covers nutrition, first aid and health and disease as well as a further range of subjects.

 I volunteer at an alpaca farm when I can to gain more knowledge and hands on experience of larger animal care. I also dog sit and walk through the Rover site.

For the six years prior to starting my course I worked freelance in the television industry as a Researcher. This involved  production administration, organising and sourcing programme content, setting up shoots, operating sound and  camera equipment on shoots and forming relationships with the public and programme contributors. 

The last programmes I worked on were about wildlife and veterinary care and practice. Through the veterinary programme I was in the practice most days working with and filming the vets at work as well as meeting and working with the pet owners. I gained invaluable knowledge and insight into veterinary care which made me realise that I am passionate about nature and animals and would like to work with directly with animals in a caring capacity.
