About Fabiola Creed:

I am a highly motivated, hardworking and adaptable worker. I am personable and have extensive administration, research and writing experience. As a keen listener, I enjoy working in a team and independently. I am seeking permanent employment in either the financial industry (as an Executive Assistant) or creative industry (as a (copy)-writer) that will both utilise and develop current skill sets.

Experience

September 2021 - present
Postdoctoral Researcher (3-year contract)
History Department, University of Warwick l Coventry
I research women's experiences of postnatal depression across the twentieth century, and convert the ‘data’ (interviews, diaries, letters, autobiographies) into outputs; academic publications, policy reports, blog articles, teaching material, workshops, conference presentations and public engagement events (exhibition audio pieces). I manage our project team's social media channels to promote our research and network with other institutions and organisations.

September 2020 - August 2021
Postdoctoral Researcher (1-year contract)
Centre for the Social History of Health and Healthcare, University of Strathclyde and Shanghai University l Glasgow
Alongside teaching both undergraduates and postgraduates on beauty, health and fitness cultures through media campaigns, I published book reviews for journals (on the sunlamp, skin lightening and condom industry) and converted my PhD research into peer-reviewed articles (on women's talk shows, fake tan technologies and 'immoral beauty consumers') and a book (The Rise and Fall of the Sunbed: Tanning Culture from Fad to Fear, MQUP). I co-organised a monthly round-table series (Post-Pandemic Provocations in the Medical Humanities) and presented research at international conferences ('Gender, Subjectivity, and “Everyday Health” in the Post-1945 World' at Essex University, and ‘Technology and the Patient Consumer’ at McGill University, Montreal) and for websites (Working Group on Body Image, Eating Disorders and Social Media).

April - July 2019
Researcher (Secondment Fellowship)
Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) l Westminster
I researched, wrote and published a policy report on ‘Improving Witness Testimony’ within the criminal justice system. Following POST’s interview procedures, I prepared, conducted and transcribed 20 interviews with police, NGO campaigners, and witness testimony psychiatrists. I enjoyed receiving both internal and external feedback to improve draft versions of the report. I also worked with POST colleagues, MPs and external experts to organise seminars on other parliamentary topics (London's edible insect farms). POST invited me to share my policy experience with the public through a LinkedIn article ('3 Skills Academics Can Learn From Policy', and at a ‘Research Skills and Career-Building’ conference.

August 2015
Archivists, Conservators & Records Management Volunteer
Boots Headquarters l Nottingham
I supported the daily operations of the records management service, following records management procedures. I catalogued their archives and found product information for Boots’ outreach events (No7 exhibition) and external researchers (the history of women through lipsticks and revolutions).

August 2014 - August 2015
Cover Teacher & Classroom Learning Assistant
Toot Hill Secondary School and College l Nottingham
I was a cover teacher, special needs supporter and mentor for A-level students. I was awarded ‘top coverer’ for covering 141 lessons in 7 weeks, and for teaching dynamically and compassionately. For college students, I provided advice and support for university applications, coursework, and revision techniques, and motivational support.

2011 - 2014
Peer Mentor and Student Helper (Open Days)
University of Liverpool l Liverpool
I presented to large groups of prospective students and parents to consider university in a warm and welcoming manner. I was asked to be a mentor in my final year to support the students struggling with their workload. I developed excellent communication skills and was consistently organised, balancing both my own studies and the demands of others.

September 2011 - February 2013
Sales/Store Assistant
Topshop, Liverpool One l Liverpool
I worked on the tills, re-stocking, fitting rooms and assisted stock checks, monitored the zones and helped organise the store. I confidently satisfied customer queries and demands in a fast-paced and high-pressurising environment.

2010 - 2011
Lunch-time Supervisor, Cleaner and Lunch-time Music Teacher Assistant
Toot Hill School l Nottingham
As an approachable and reliable college student, Toot Hill School asked me to set up the cafeteria and supervise students during lunchtime. I achieved my grade 8 flute at 17 years old. To further inspire creativity, I set up a lunchtime flute choir and theory lessons to teach beginners. My students achieved a 100% distinction rate.

2009 - 2011
Care Worker & Cleaner
Nottingham County Council l Nottingham
As a carer for a disabled woman, I provided a trusting relationship and assistance. I did housework, prepared meals, and walked her dogs. This employment reflects my comfortable, persevering and unfaltering support towards those I assist.

2008 - 2014
Waitress, Laundry Worker & Hotel Room Cleaner
Langar Hall l Nottingham
I cleaned, restocked and prepared all the rooms before guests arrived. I welcomed guests and took all orders. My six years as a waitress during school-evenings, the weekend, and the school/university holidays taught me the significance of punctuality and preparation. It also shows my reliable, flexible and accommodating nature.
