Former events representative for my student body. Experienced in writing press releases, liaising with national media, organising events for 250+ students, marketing, ticketing, administrative work, and creative writing.
Experience
July 2022 - Assisting in an online family business.
- Practical tasks such sanding and painting products (as a part of the upcycling process).
- Managing social media accounts (photographing products, responding to messages from interested customers).
- Selling products at market stalls.
July 2024 – Present Day- Bar Staff at the Haydock Conservative Club
- Operating tills and taking payments
- Customer service
- Making sure the bar remains stocked
- Taking deliveries regularly and organising the stock
- Ensuring the administrative task of organising club membership forms is attended to
- Taking bookings from customers (involving ensuring all legal points are covered so the club is not liable for any damage done to the premises or the people in attendance)
- Cleaning up after events and, on a weekly basis, deep cleaning the bar area
- Cashing up at the end of a shift
April 2023 – March 2024- Events Manager for my College student body.
- Organising and hosting a range of events including themed parties for up to 200 people, bingo nights, karaoke, live music events, quiz nights and club nights.
- Producing an event plan containing details regarding safeguarding, budgeting, and attendance and persuading those in authority to allow events to go ahead.
- Liaising with the college treasurer in order to stay on top of our allocated budget. • Working with venue owners to book remote venues for events.
- Catering for 150+ people on a bi-weekly basis.
- Cleaning up after each event (picking up litter, mopping the floor, removing broken glass, wiping down surfaces).
March 2024- March 2025- Manager of my student bar.
- Work regular shifts behind the student bar (serving customers, working the till, opening and closing the bar, cashing up etc).
- Organise the weekly staff rota.
- Stock intake.
- Training new members of staff.
- Communicating with the college bursar and the catering manager as to what stock students want to see behind the bar.
- Keeping a schedule as to when the bar is booked for events.
- Keeping the bar clean, doing the general housekeeping.
2023-Present Day- Active member of the Oxford Union
- I regularly attend and engage with speaker events and debates in the Oxford Union chambers.
- I have been involved with several Oxford Union election campaigns, recently campaign managing the winning presidential candidate as part of the winning slate #ENGAGE.
- I have represented multiple candidates in electoral counts. This process involves spectating the severance of ballot papers, contesting invalid ballots, authenticating the number of ballots counted by neutral electoral officials, and maintaining the secrecy of the election results. The last count I took part in ran for a duration of 16 hours.
- I have held the position of both Deputy Director of Press and Director of Press. Press statements that I have written have been published by several international press outlets such as The Times, The Telegraph, CNN, and the BBC.
- In my time on committee I organised a debate on the motion ‘This House Believes that Mainstream Media is an Enemy of the People’, alongside several socials such as a boat party on the River Thames and a Bacchanalia themed ball.
- I currently hold the position of Elected Member of Wine and Spirits Committee. This is a small committee dedicated to ensuring the members bar is ran efficiently and in line with the licensing requirements.
October 2024- Creative work published in the Isis Magazine
- An article I wrote titled “Never Go Back: An Ode to Returning” was published in the magazine under the Trinity Term theme ‘Trash’.
- The process of writing the article involved working alongside my assigned editor for 8 weeks, producing 4 drafts of the article based on my editor’s feedback and working with my assigned illustrator to produce the graphics for the piece.
April 2024- Present Day- Student Ambassador for Lady Margaret Hall
- I have worked as a student ambassador at several Oxford Open Days.
- This involved giving prospective students a guided tour of the college’s grounds and answering any questions applicants may have about the English Literature course, the Oxford experience, and the college environment.
- I spent a period of time handing out maps and leaflets to the public and talking to people in the street to try to persuade them to visit our college.
- I aided in the brainstorming and creation of content for the college’s social media pages.
