Francis Duggan

I have acquired vast knowledge in many subjects that come under the banner of fine art, including sculpting, woodworking, metal work. Painting with different mediums such as Oil, Acrylic and watercolour. I am also proficient in Adobe software, particularly Photoshop, Premier Pro and Audition which are vital in the creation of projects, especially those with a 3D design aspect.

Many of my modules over the past 3 years have included vast amounts of written work where it was expected of me to theorise on subjects such as modernist architecture in the 20th century or Video installation art, which I then extrapolated my own opinions and outcomes whilst considering the academic papers of peers. This has given me valuable insight into the creation of potential modules for classrooms and what is expected of students in their work.

I hold a BA (hons) in fine art, which I earned a first class, distinction. Although my work experience in a classroom setting is limited, my experience in running kitchens for 18 years, creating menus, running a team, rotas, ordering and all other aspects of that business has given me a professionalism when it comes to work. Not only in the day to day running of the business, but also how to treat staff and customers with respect whilst adhering to company standards of safety and equality.

I have over 25 years of work experience. Since starting my degree in fine art, it has been my desire to pass on the knowledge I have learned to a new generation of artists and designers. While working with children as a part of my volunteering at Dorset Community Centre in 2018, I was awestruck by the delight of the children as they involved themselves in the process of creating art, and I found it contagious. Although demanding, I believe that to teach your passion must be one of the most rewarding and fulfilling professions one could ever undertake.

I am a very confident and outgoing person whose dedication for art goes beyond teaching, as I run my own small practice as well as being an active member of local art projects in Atherton, where we are currently planning on opening an exhibition for local amateur artists and local students, from all ages.

I believe that by tapping into the creative minds of children and nurturing their talents in a safe and stable environment, can not only benefit their education but is also extremely important for good mental health, a subject which I have examined over the past 2 years in various essays
