About Georgie Salter:
I have an undergraduate degree in English Literature and recently completed my postgraduate diploma in law at BPP University. I am the regional lead of Stansted and East Herefordshire for the charity Care4Calais. I lead a team of volunteers that support five asylum seeker hotels across the region. My aim is to qualify as a solicitor and to work in the field of asylum and immigration law. I am currently studying for my SQE 1 exam.
Experience
For the past year, I have been a full-time volunteer for the charity Care4Calais. I lead a team of volunteers and spread services across five asylum seeker hotels. I provide clothing, English lessons, help with finding legal aid and assist the asylum seekers in obtaining paper work such as section 95 support. I also attend regular meetings with hotel providers, the council and the Home Office to ensure the asylum seeker's needs are being met and service are being carried out properly and effectively. At university, I founded a law society and served on the committee for two consecutive years. In my final year, I was the president and organised a successful law dinner in collaboration with several other law societies. The event was extremely successful and provided an opportunity for students to network with legal professionals.
Education
I graduated from the University of Kent with a degree at a 2.1 in English and American Literature in 2022. In August 2023, I completed my postgraduate diploma in law at BPP University Law School. I am currently studying towards my SQE1 exam in January 2024.
