About Georgina Oliver:

I am currently a senior support worker who works in supported living, for individuals with mental health issues. I have recently graduated university with a First-Class degree in Criminology.

Experience

My current job as a senior support worker has confirmed to me a job helping others is something I feel passionate about wish to continue to do in the future, however, in the Criminal Justice world rather than learning disability and mental health field. My senior job role has increased my professionalism and provided me with experience in managing caseloads, communicating professionally with other senior staff in related fields, as well as manage/lead houses and staff and conduct risk assessments when necessary. It is also vital I am able to organise team meetings, engage with my team appropriately and evaluate situations accordingly in order to process and obtain the best outcome. This job has provided me with the skills to face unknown, challenging and unpredictable situations as well as reminding me the importance of patience and understanding with every task undertaken. I feel this job has massively increased my confidence as I am an advocate for these adults, they are relying on me to speak up for them and to always strive for the best for all service users. MAR charts and service user notes need to be regularly updated so this role has improved my communication and organisational skills in order to ensure all medications and records are accurate. I am able to demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills as well as having up to date IT skills. This job role reinforced to me my enthusiasm for supporting individuals and empowering them, sometimes being their best advocate. I not only support individuals one to one, massively improving my management, investigation, initiative, and advocacy skills but also working as part of a large senior worker team and therefore my communication, team player and organisational skills have consequently improved. I have shown I am capable of building trusting and effective relationships with service users and other staff and that I am responsible and reliable for service users who depend on me – this was also reinforced to myself as I was offered promotion after only 6 months with the company, and I continue to work there currently.

Education

I have recently graduated university with a First-Class degree in Criminology but have trained as a senior support worker. I have safeguarding, first aid, epilepsy, domestic violence and mental health training - up to date as of October/November 2023 and some more recently.
