About Harper Wootton:
I am a devoted and approachable individual looking to better themselves and gain experience in whatever ways present themself. I have spent the majority of my life trying to get the most out of educational settings and now want to improve myself elsewhere.
As of now, I am a graduate of Psychology with Psychotherapy (BSc (Hons)) from UCLan. In March I finished a Master’s programme at Manchester Metropolitan in Clinical Practice.
Experience
Bar Staff @ Britannia Hotels (2022 – 2023)
Shortly after moving in Manchester, I started working in multiple bars across the city centre, namely in Sascha’s Wave, Sacha’s Late Bar, Bar Rogue, and The Britannia hotel’s various bars and function rooms.
This variety meant applying different skills to across different work environments. On quiet shifts I worked alone focusing on making customers feel special, all while resolving issues with initiative and time management. Whereas on busier, more hectic shifts I focused on meeting the needs of our large customer base while anticipating and acting on the needs of the bar team.
Bar Supervisor @ Luther’s Karaoke Bar (2021 - 2022)
In August of 2021, I began working for Luther’s bar, where I helped prepare for the grand opening before transitioning to bar work and then progressing into a supervisor role after a short while.
Being a supervisor meant working with managers to complete novel and routine tasks on every shift including money management, bar maintenance, and customer questions/ complaints. My other key responsibility was to ensure that the day’s tasks were completed properly and that we were working effectively as a team to tackle any other problems that could arise throughout the night.
Making sure I was a reliable, thorough, and proactive member of a team was key to becoming a successful supervisor and helping my team thrive.
Promotion Staff @ YBD Promotions & Events (2018 - 2019)
Throughout my undergrad, I worked as a promoter for different nightclubs in around Preston. This involved handing out advertisement materials and deals to potential patrons while interacting with them on both a social and professional level. This developed my ability to be attentive and empathetic to customers even when they are being hostile or difficult as well as how to advertise enthusiastically and creatively to individuals and groups.
Volunteering & Extra-curricular Activities:
LGBT+ Student’s Liberation Rep @ UCLan (2018 – 2022):
For the majority of my time at UCLan, I acted as their elected representative for LGBT+ students; this involved working with the SU on events like Pride, attending meetings with the university, and offering my voice, on behalf of students like myself, including three times at national conferences.
Doing this not only allowed me to talk directly to students and convey what they wanted, but also helped me develop a confident voice that I can comfortably communicate with others to present what I believe in and best understand what is needed from me.
7Cups, PeerTalk & Coffee4Craig Volunteering (2015 – Present):
I am also invested in volunteer work, starting with Seven Cups of Tea, in 2015. My role there was to listen to people’s issues while allowing them a safe space to converse openly. In 2019, I joined PeerTalk, an organisation with similar goals as Seven Cups but acts in a group support setting meeting once a week focusing on Peer-to-Peer Support.
Most recently, in 2022, I began assisting Coffee4Craig, a homeless kitchen and support centre. As their receptionist, I both run administration tasks, sign in sheets, resource gathering as well as being a friendly face to greet everyone who enters the building and their first port of call for any issues.
Alongside reception duties I help out as a kind ear and present listener for all attendees to come to throughout the service. There I can help on a one-to-one basis, listening and supporting our guests with whatever experiences they choose to bring to sessions.
Musician (2014 – Present):
Lastly, I have been performing music for a very long time and worked with several very-different bands and towards different projects over this time. This involved me playing various roles in organising and ensuring that all work is stage ready and as good as it can be.
