Harry Thomas

My goal is to leverage my enthusiasm for sports and my commitment to excellence in pursuing a career in the sports and leisure industry. My recently completed course at Burton & South Derbyshire College provided me with a great understanding of general sport and exercise topics, including sports leadership, coaching, fitness testing, physiology, and performance analysis. In September 2023 I start at the University of Derby on the BSc. Sport Therapy and Rehabilitation course.
I am very confident in my practical abilities, and my willingness to try new things shows my commitment, risk- awareness, and maturity. Passionate about professional development and always eager to undertake training to obtain new skills.

In 2022 I undertook my college first year work experience at the Tamworth SnowDome. This included dealing directly with customers, handling enquiries and problem solving. During some periods was responsible for health and safety of the main ski slope with responsibility to stop runs. In this 2-week period I worked with new people in an unfamiliar environment, took direction and successfully navigated the complex and multi-activity business the SnowDome is.
As part of my current college course, I was part of a group that delivered football coaching sessions to 8 & 9-year- old children at a local Primary School. This included planning and delivering sessions whilst considering health & safety, differing abilities and knowledge, and providing a safe secure space for all. One child had hearing difficulties and I wore a direct microphone to their device to enable clear communication.
In 2023 I successfully completed 37 hours of monitored work experience at Shobnall Leisure Centre in Burton-on- Trent. Across several sessions I worked with a range of ages across various sports. Including set-up, monitoring of competition and take-down of equipment.

Team sports have taught me how to work effectively in a group, how to deal with highs and lows, along with using key personal traits such as reliability, honesty, trust, and empathy.
