About Husnain Ahmed:

I am applying to teach at your school because I believe my personal and professional attributes, especially in PE as that is my subject specialism and experience as a supply primary NQT who currently holds a QTS would be highly valued by your pupils, parents, staff, and governors.

I am currently a primary school NQT who has just earned a QTS in primary education with a subject specialism in PE. The main reason why I chose to go down the path of being a teacher is that I have a big passion for teaching as I love to see children grow and progress and knowing that I will be a part of their success makes me proud. I am a committed individual and will 100% put my all into what I do. I am skilled at creating positive relationships with children to make them feel in a positive environment, I am also skilled at using different AFL, teaching, and learning strategies to develop my sessions to help develop children's knowledge and test it, some of the strategies I use are talking to your partner for two minutes, writing answers on whiteboards and having classroom debates about a topic. Having PE as a subject specialism is great as I can use it in the classroom to make lessons fun, interactive and active.

I have successfully managed to complete all three placements required by my university and also completed two long-term supply jobs. All schools have been academy schools and I have had the privilege of getting the experience to teach in both key stages 1 and 2. Teaching in years 1 and 3 has been good for me as it has given me an insight into how both key stages run, the different curriculum approaches and the difference between teaching and learning through pupils. From my previous placements, I have demonstrated I am an excellent class practitioner; I can create good relationships with children and staff quite quickly which has led me onto using effective teaching and learning strategies as I have a good bond with the children. For both my long-term supply roles I had the privilege of teaching year 1 for both jobs and again both schools have been academy schools. Teaching year 1 has helped me a lot in creating bonds and relationships with much younger kids and knowing the right steps to take to positively teach them. When it comes to teaching year 1 the experience, I have got has helped me out a lot especially when it comes to phonics as that is one of, the key areas in key stage 1. I have had a lot of help with training and programmes to help me strengthen at teaching phonics and I can say I have successfully managed to improve and teach with different phonics schemes like ALS, essential letters and sounds, jolly phonics and monster phonics, this has been so useful to me as I believe I am very confident going into any year group in key stage 1 and having the ability to teach phonics confidently.

Having experiences in different schools has been good for me as I have been able to work closely with a wide variety of people like SEND children, pastoral managers, class teachers and senior leaders. I successfully met the needs of all my children academically and with behaviour as I was able to use differentiation skills like changing tasks and giving SEND children more time on tasks. Regarding behaviour, I was able to follow the school's behaviour policy effectively by using rewards for positive commitments in the classroom, sanctions for any rule breaks or misbehaviour in classrooms and instructions to control the classroom. I like to encourage positive behaviour in the classroom so that if I reward one child it will encourage the rest of the class to behave positively to be rewarded instead of shouting at them or giving sanctions.

The reason I chose to apply for your school is that I think I would be a great asset and role model to the children and colleagues around me. As a male teacher, I believe I can make a strong and positive impact on the children around me. Having a male teacher can be unique and different for some schools and children from the experience I have had in my previous schools as most primary schools are female-dominated I believe the children having a male role model in their life can positively affect them as some might not have a male role model in their life, especially when it comes to boys as I believe then they might have someone they can talk to, relate to and look up to and see that males can become primary school teachers. I strongly believe education is one or if not the main priority in a child's life and I want to strive to ensure I can play a key role in ensuring children have a successful education. This means I commit to planning and delivering lessons that are interactive enjoyable and highly educational which promises to give the children an insight into a lot of professional knowledge.

My lessons will look to provide the learner with the opportunity to reflect on their work and analyse their progression. My schemes of work will look to have objectives for specific ability groups to achieve by the end of the lesson this will help me assess who is progressing and who will need more help and attention. I look to provide outstanding classroom practice and I possess the ability to secure high levels of pupil interest in lessons by incorporating an array of active learning through my specialism in PE to add an extra dimension for the children to learn through. Pupils respond enthusiastically to the opportunities I provide inside the classroom through using the interactive whiteboard and other resources like using counters in maths. I can provide opportunities outside the classroom where children can express their learning through movement and play which they tend to get excited about when I tell them we will be doing active learning. I can use target settings effectively as part of a continuous process of assessment and target setting that can inform future planning.

I am committed to ensuring full inclusion and equality within the learning environment and I have a track record of teaching children with special educational needs such as autism, behavioural and emotional difficulties, and physical disabilities. I achieve inclusion by creating differentiation tasks in my lesson plans to meet the needs of certain children, I also tend to put more focus on SEND children in the classroom to ensure they are included in the lesson and are taking something out of the lesson. I successfully differentiate learning opportunities to enable all learners to enjoy their learning and achieve their goals. I always account for targets outlined within children's individual needs plans when planning lessons and setting targets.

I have accessed a range of continuing professional development opportunities including seminars and after-school meetings where I was able to develop a learning culture through assessment for learning and children safeguarding and behaviour management which was helpful. These courses have enabled me to improve the quality of children's learning and meet the aims of every child.

Regarding extra-curricular activities and other achievements, I have managed to run after schools clubs at some of my previous schools where, I was teaching PE, I was able to run clubs like football and gymnastics which gives me experience in teaching outside the classroom. I have also managed to achieve certificates in first aid and safeguarding which is a good asset to have in the classroom.

Sincerely,

Husnain Ahmed
