About Jasmine Johnston:

Hello! I am a Neuroscience student at the University of Edinburgh entering my final year. Throughout my studies I have adored going to local coffee shops to catch up with friends, study and read. I have always loved the idea of working in a coffee shop as the environment seems so enjoyable and comforting. With more time over the Summer I am eager to get a job at Love Peace and Coffee. It is across from my flat and I go often and love the atmosphere! Within my degree I am passionate about neuropharmacology, with a particular interest in therapeutics for neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's disease. Outside of my degree I am very involved in Girl* Up, a society that promotes gender equality, and have participated as committee throughout the last 3 years, and will be treasurer in the upcoming year. I also really enjoy music, and have been playing violin since the age of 6, and am currently in the University of Edinburgh Symphony Orchestra, and am slowly learning guitar on the side! I love making all sorts of drinks, from coffees to chai lattes, to matchas and I like to get creative with it! I also really enjoy working with others and interacting with people. I am the type of person that always likes to be busy and hanging out with others. I think this job would suit me well as it combines my love for cafes and people.

Experience

Last august I worked at the Fringe Festival with Assembly Venues as Front of House. I worked at the largest venue, Assembly Hall, with a capacity of 840. This experience was invaluable as not only did I get to work in a close knit community, but I also gained skills in communicating with audience members. Within my role I scanned tickets, managed queues, seated people and sat in on shows to ensure they ran smoothly. Throughout this all I was in communication with the team of 34 thorugh walkie talkies. This could sometimes be a stressful experience since it was such a large venue, but we managed well as a team. Additionally I have worked at a Pharmacy in the local town of France where my Family live called Gex. This involved stockage, managing prescriptions, and interacting with customers. This was done in French, my second language.

Education

I am currently at the University of Edinburgh studying Neuroscience, entering my final year. I am pursuing a First Class Honours degree with an average of 74%. I have enjoyed my degree. I found it very interesting since the first two years were focused on Biomedical Sciences more broadly, so I learned about aspects of not only Neuroscience, but also Pharmacology, Infectious diseases, Anatomy, Reproductive Biology, and more.
