I am a former Mathematics teacher with several years' experience working at secondary schools in Gloucestershire.

I am now looking to transition out of the teaching profession and into a field that makes use of my mathematical skills. I am a diligent and enthusiastic professional with a genuine passion for learning new skills and for developing the skills that I already had.

Work Experience       

September 2022 to April 2023 Ribston Hall High School, Gloucester – Teacher of Mathematics      

• Taught classes at both GCSE and A-Level, including AQA Level 2 Further Maths which bridged the gap between the two - ensuring that the brightest students have great mathematical fluency when they start their A-Level studies.

September 2019 to August 2022 St. Peter’s RC High School and Sixth Form Centre – Teacher of Mathematics

• Taught classes across all key stages and all year groups, including both foundation and higher-tier GCSE classes as well as teaching A-Level maths and further maths to completion in both year 12 and Year 13 as well as teaching KS3 classes of all abilities.
• I also worked alongside the maths department to produce lesson resources of a high standard, as well as supporting with administrative duties such as marking exam papers and recording the results on Excel.
• I was commended by senior staff for the quality of feedback provided consistently to students during lockdowns, helping students to maintain success through the pandemic period. I also introduced online whiteboard software to the maths department.
• A-Level further maths class achieved 100% A*-A grades (including one student who went onto Cambridge University).

September 2018 to August 2019 John Kyrle High School, Ross-on-Wye – NQT Teacher of Mathematics

• Worked teaching KS3 classes of a wide range of abilities, as well as managing the administrative demands of the NQT year. This involved maintaining a portfolio for the academic year demonstrating how I had met each of the teaching standards.
• I also ran after-school teaching sessions with high-attaining Year 11 students every Monday, focusing on the most challenging GCSE questions, exploring and developing a systematic approach to problem-solving.
• Ran a lunchtime maths club for year 7 students, encouraging the students’ intellectual curiosity by exploring advanced areas of mathematics outside the school syllabus.

March to July 2016   St. Peter’s RC High School – HLTA Mathematics 

• Worked at St. Peter’s School as a Teaching Assistant in preparation for my PGCE.
• I worked with classes observing the teacher’s actions, as well as working one-to-one with students assisting them with any difficulties they found with the work.
• This position allowed me to develop my verbal communication skills in a working environment, explaining challenging ideas in an accessible and engaging manner.

PGCE Secondary Mathematics – Pass with Merit

• Worked four days a week in the classroom throughout this PGCE alongside completing several academic essays and a presentation – this required effective organisation and time management.
• Worked in several different schools in the Coventry area, working with students of different backgrounds and mathematical attainment levels.
• I also did significant amounts of small-group work with Year 11 students in the run-up to their public examinations, which played a significant role in helping students achieve Grade 7-9 in GCSE Maths.

BSc (Hons.) Mathematics and Philosophy – First Class Honours  

• In-depth understanding of different areas of pure mathematics including abstract algebra, number theory and linear algebra.
• Extensive study of these areas has allowed me to understand technical concepts and apply them to the solution of both abstract problems and problems in applied areas such as cryptography and coding theory.
• I have a great interest in statistics and statistical analysis and a strong ability in this area.
• I also achieved excellent results on a wide variety of philosophy modules including Logic, Philosophy of Language, Knowledge and Reality and Philosophy of Mathematics.
• Studying philosophy alongside mathematics made me highly skilled at both critically evaluating complex written material and communicating my understanding of this material both verbally and in writing.
