About Katie Wilson:

Dear Hiring Manager,

I would love to bring my passion and enthusiasm to cooking into your school and join your team a Catering Assistant, should any position become available. As a parent of two children within school age I am eager to contribute to the school community by supporting students with healthy, nutritious meals.

•Experience

Although I am new to working in a school kitchen, I bring a strong background in cooking at home and a genuine passion for food. If I had the opportunity to work for your school, I would do so

with a positive attitude and dedication. I believe sometimes the best experience and to get a real understanding and insight into a role is to learn on the job. I am more than ready for this new challenge.

•Knowledge

I am confident I know how to prepare and cook food. I am now wanting to gain knowledge in working in a school environment, and being part of and involved in serving students healthy nutritional meals. It will be great to be working with like minded people, producing high quality food and service.

•Culinary Skills

As never before working in a busy school kitchen, I can only offer the culinary skills I have learned from cooking at home, I took an interest in cooking when I was about 16, and would say I pretty much taught myself how to cook, I’ve always enjoyed cooking, there is something about transforming ingredients into dishes. I like to be creative. I am familiar with basic cooking techniques and understand how different ingredients work together. I like to put my own personal touches to meals and always taste my dishes whilst cooking to make sure that we will enjoy the meal I have prepared. I find it rewarding to settle down as a family with a home cooked healthy meal made by me. I enjoy creating a wide variety of balanced meals, from traditional roasts to pasta dishes, and take pride in preparing food to a high standard of taste and presentation.

•Food safety and hygiene

I understand the importance of food safety and hygiene and consistently apply these principles when preparing meals for my family. Within schools I am aware they are crucial for protecting the health and wellbeing of students and staff. I myself demonstrate this at home when cooking for my family too. Always making sure raw meat is on the bottom shelf of the fridge and using different chopping boards to prevent cross contamination. I understand that correct food handling, storage, and preparation is key, as well as maintaining a clean environment to ensure food is cooked properly and safely.

•Organisation and time management

I am reliable, hardworking and highly motivated. I enjoy working as part of a team, communicating clearly, and supporting colleagues to keep everything running smoothly in a fast-paced environment. With good organisational and time-management skills, I ensure my work is carried out efficiently and to a high standard.

•Teamwork and communication

I enjoy working as part of a team, and feel I have good communication skills. I am

happy to take instructions and any advice that could help me improve my job role as a catering assistant. I work well under pressure. I can hold a conversation but am also a good listener. I always think a business or organisation works best when you can work well together and feel valued as an employee and as a team. To have that trust and respect for your fellow colleagues is very important. I get on well with people and think I’m a friendly and bubbly person.

•Adaptability and flexibility

I have a flexible approach to daily tasks. I am willing to do what ever is needed and understand that lunchtime at a school is busy and fast paced. I can assist wherever is needed to make the running of the kitchen and the lunchtime experience for the students as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

•Customer service

I am very aware of good customer service, and have a great understanding of how you should treat someone and why it is so important and what level of service is required. I think a big smile and a helpful, friendly person is the bare minimum when dealing with people. I believe students should be acknowledged and spoken to in a warm welcoming manner and be treated with the same level of respect and you would want yourself.

•Continuous learning and development

I would welcome the opportunity to complete any training required for this role, and I am committed to learning and developing further within the catering industry. What I can offer in return is enthusiasm, a flexible and positive approach, and a dedication to providing students with a warm, welcoming service.

•Enthusiasm and passion for cooking

What I may lack in qualifications, I make up for with enthusiasm. I have a passion for cooking and am confident I will excel in this role and contribute to a positive dining experience for your students.

I would be delighted to bring my skills and passion for cooking to your school and contribute to a positive dining experience for your students. I am available for interview at your earliest convenience and look forward to the opportunity to discuss how I can support your catering team.

Kindest regards,

Katie Wilson
