Kyra Cheshire
Education / Training
About Kyra Cheshire:
I am currently a cover teacher working in the West Midlands region. However, I am a qualified Art Teacher since August 2022 (need to complete ECT years).
I am also an artist in my free time and more than happy to take on commissions.
Experience
I have worked at a wide variety of schools across the West Midlands (list at the bottom). I have worked as a long-term art cover at 3 schools (Colton Hills, The Royal, and NEWA), where I have had to plan, mark, assess, and complete day-to-day teacher duties. As a cover teacher, I must ensure students are completing work, following behaviour systems within schools, aiding SEN, and much more. I have also helped in the SEN department, sitting with students as their TA and helping out in the department.
- Schools worked at: Oldbury Wells High School, Bridgnorth Endowed High School, Codsall Community High School, Telford Langley High School, Telford Park School, Burton Borough High School, Wolgarston High School, Penkridge Middle School, Khalsa Academy, Perton Middle School, Abraham Darby High School, The Royal High School, Colton Hills School, Brewood Middle School, The Rural Enterprise Academy, and St Edmunds High School.
- Subjects taught: Physical Education (GCSE theory and practical to lower years), Spanish, French, English, Science (chemistry, physics, and biology), History, Geography, Maths, ICT/Computer Science, Food Tech, PSHE, Art, DT, Photography, Hospitality and Catering, and Form.
Education
PGCE Art and Design (QTS) at Birmingham City University.
Over these three schools I taught art to year 7, 8, 9, 10 and sixth form, which I also taught textiles to year 8 and assisted in year 10 photography. I have managed behaviour within a classroom whilst promoting positive behaviour from students. I have created lesson plans based off a theme or a scheme, whilst creating exemplars to support my lessons. I also created my own scheme of work based off a theme and required materials students had to use. Alongside this I included assessments and marking into my planning. As a department we have worked collaboratively to create displays and to take part in whole school activities, as well as attending briefings, training sessions and meetings. I often took part in art club, as well as running art club after school by creating fun art tasks for students to do, which were based off the theme of the week or day. I taught textiles and made my own lesson plans, whilst developing my own skills to pass onto students. I planned workshops for year 10 to experiment with materials to add to their coursework.
- Materials taught: mono-print, lino printing, sgraffito (two different ways), oil pastels, watercolours, wax resist, pen, pencil, charcoal, clay, paper-craft and coloured pencils.
- Themes taught: natural forms, food/sweets, imagination, myself and my world, under the sea (in art and in textiles), and packaging.
