Lana Al Khateeb

I study Fine art at the University of Dundee, aiming to work in teaching after my course as I believe I have good people skills, and would like to use it to create a safe and positive environment for the people I am surrounded with. Therefore I believe working here will help me to begin putting those skills to use, and immersing myself with all types of people to involve myself with them. I have experience volunteering in various avenues, from farming, to theatre, and working with others in organising methods of raising money near the end of my school journey before I began my studies in university. Since I started my course I've been quite focused in honing my skills in art and figuring out my aims, but besides that I have assisted further in the last year by volunteering to paint several set pieces for the student theatre/operatic society, assisting in putting up posters around the city, successfully acquiring permission from various businesses to advertise the show in their establishments using said posters, as well as spending up to 18 hours at the ticket selling booth over the course of 2 weeks to boost sales for the show that took place this year.

My experience involves volunteering at multiple theatre groups assisting backstage in my first one, and helping with set design and ticket selling in my last one.

I have also volunteered in developmental aid assistance where I worked with a group of 30 people in Tanzania to prepare farmland at a local school and two family residences to promote access to education for the youth.

Finally I have assisted my family business in filling product into glass  containers and neatly adhering their product labels, as well as packing and unpacking stock and product packaging from vehicle to store.

Although I am currently studying at the University of Dundee for Fine art, my most relevant education is my completion of the International Baccalaureate in 2021, where of the course of two years I studied Art, English and Mathematics at a Higher level, as well as Physics, Psychology and Spanish at a standard level. I also did Theory of Knowledge which taught critical thinking skill, I completed an extended essay in Art and also completed my ‘CAS’ requirements which involved participating or building skills in creativity, activity and services.
