Laura Stjernstedt-Sinyama

Worked in environmental management, Climate Change, and conservation with the UNDP in Zambia for over 16 years returning to the UK I want to expand my horizons.  I have a Master's in Environmental Management and a Degree in Development studies. I have gained experience in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) stemming from managing the Social and Environmental Management Plans (SEMPs) on a project cycle and reporting to the relevant management lines. As the UK embarks on the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), I see myself using the global knowledge, skills, and experience I have gained to work with the private or public sector to meet their targets and be compliant.  

In the years I have been working in the environmental sector I have gained experience as part of managing projects in Environmental, social, and governance (ESG). My experience stems from managing the Social and Environmental Management Plans (SEMPs) on a project cycle and reporting to the relevant management lines. As you are aware it is policy, planning, operational procedures, checking, and review while planning and implementing the project, all Global Environmental Facility (GEF) projects need SEMP, and reporting to GEF is required each year. These would be the same tools and methodologies for private or public companies.  With respect to Carbon assessments, my experience is from being the focal point in the “Greening the Blue” team to effectively reduce energy consumption, minimize waste, and promote a culture of sustainability within the workplace. My responsibility in the team was to contribute to the compiling of the Carbon footprint measurement tool as well as raise awareness among the teams that were collecting the data then analyze it to come up with the best reduction measures and then have awareness-raising workshops for staff. For example, in waste management, the segregation of waste from the office floor so that organic waste can be reused for compost in the office gardens, while plastic is sent to businesses that reuse it for other business avenues. I would need to have a workshop to ensure staff are appraised of the management decision and compliance measures are followed. I also have project management experience, so I can effectively manage the implementation and reporting of the Group sustainability framework on time and within budget. My passion for the environment and acknowledgment of my personal input into a better tomorrow means I am willing to learn anything new to be able to deliver on the commitments of the organization. 

I am pursuing my Practitioner Membership with the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA). As well as studying for a Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Practitioner apprenticeship standard. I have a masters in Environmental Management and a degree in development studies. I am also a certified Project Manager PRICE II
