Lauren Kelly

I am an Art Teacher from Ireland and I have been living and teaching in Vietnam for the past six years. I enjoy travelling to different countries and experiencing a range of cultures. Throughout my travels these rich cultures have inspired my personal artwork which has been heavily focused on design, knit and weave. My knowledge of art forms have been expanded through observation of how people from different parts of the world produce their craft. 

I have been teaching in Vietnam for six years, with my most recent position being a Visual Arts Teacher at an international school in Ho Chi Minh City. During my time there I taught students from grades six to twelve. Working within an international setting has provided me with the opportunity to develop my skills and knowledge as a Visual Arts Teacher. This role came with increased responsibilities when compared to previous positions held. For example, as the only middle school Visual Arts Teacher, it was my responsibility to design a curriculum for grades six to eight, which met the Californian State Standards. It is evident in the work produced by my students that they have learned and followed the instructions and demonstrations given in my art classes. I have a passion to inspire and develop young peoples' imaginations and skills, and it is rewarding when these students take the initiative to expand on art forms introduced to them in class to create something unique. I have enjoyed collaborating with the high school art teacher and colleagues from other departments in my most recent position and I intend to continue this teamwork approach if given the opportunity to do so in any future employment.
