About Lourdes Mendez:

An experienced and dedicated Curator with a passion for making art universally accessible. I believe in the power of art to inspire, provoke thought, and connect people from all walks of life. My approach to curatorial work revolves around creating exhibitions that not only showcase exceptional art but also serve as catalysts for meaningful experiences and conversations. I am committed to curating exhibitions that ignite curiosity, celebrate diversity, and contribute to a more enriched and inclusive cultural landscape.

Experience

Throughout my career, I have acquired diverse experience and skills in various roles related to art curating and graphic design.

For the past four years, I have been employed as a Graphic Designer at The Fold, a British women's wear fashion brand. During my tenure, I managed a wide range of design projects, including the creation of newsletters, social media assets, Facebook ads, web design, visual merchandising, and various print materials like concertinas, posters, catalogues, rail tags, window vinyls, stand graphics, and swing tags. I also handled press packs, press releases, brand identity development, and motion graphics.

In addition to my work at The Fold, I served as the Public Programme Curator of ‘Tate Until Late’ at Tate Britain. In this role, I curated a performative act, organized exhibitions featuring archival material, conducted workshops and artist talks, and led tours.

I also contributed to Chelsea Space as an Assistant Curator, curating the exhibition 'OBSERVER: John Latham and the Distant Perspective.' This involved a research residency on John Latham's archive at Flat Time House. For the exhibition, I managed budgets, supervised insurance and transportation of artworks, and engaged in scholarly writing and editing.

While studying for my MA in Curating and Collections at Chelsea College of Arts, I had the opportunity to work at ILEA Camberwell Collection. My role there encompassed exhibition design and curation, crafting press releases, contextualizing artworks and storytelling, creating interpretive materials, and cultivating art appreciation.

Furthermore, I completed a Graphic Design Internship at Zara Inditex, focusing on marketing, social media, web design, and the design of weekly newsletters.

While studying in Madrid, I also volunteered at the Prado Museum, where I conducted thorough research for project proposals. During my tenure, I organized 'El Quijote: Designer,' an exhibition commemorating the Fourth Centenary of Miguel de Cervantes' death. My primary goal during this experience was to enhance the accessibility of arts and culture to diverse audiences, with a particular focus on engaging children and young people through interactive installations and workshops. As part of the broader public program, I also coordinated reading sessions for kids to promote an appreciation of art and literature. This experience is a testament to my ability to engage a wide spectrum of audiences and my experience working in a creative, fast-paced, cutting-edge environment alongside digital and cultural professionals, including graphic designers, programmers, and artists.

Education

I pursued a dynamic educational journey that has equipped me with a strong foundation in the arts and design. In 2019, I completed my MA in Curating & Collections at Chelsea College of Art, earning a First-Class degree, which expanded my knowledge in curatorial practices and art collections management. Prior to that, from 2018 to 2016, I earned my BA in Graphic Design at Westminster University, achieving First-Class Honours, where I honed my design skills and creative thinking. In 2015, I furthered my expertise with a Photography Course at Central Saint Martins, deepening my understanding of visual storytelling. Additionally, from 2014 to 2016, I pursued a BA in Visual Communication at IED Madrid, gaining a comprehensive understanding of visual communication strategies. These educational experiences have provided me with a diverse skill set, including curatorial expertise, graphic design proficiency, and a keen eye for visual aesthetics.
