Neuroscience Student Representative |University of Sussex                  (September 2020 - July 2021)

Elected by my course colleagues among 200 Neuroscience students to be the representative of my student cohort during the COVID-19 pandemic. Improved students´ academic life quality by carrying out periodical meetings about educational standards with the University of Sussex Senate. I led the implementation of the below initiatives:

  • Introduction of internet labs during the pandemic.
  • Established equal examination standards thought all Life Science modules to improve assessment fairness.
  • Improved attendance records and online lectures quality.

 

  • Communication skills and problem solving: Listened to the concerns, suggestions, and feedback of my fellow students, ensuring that their voices were heard. Compiled and communicated all issues being faced by my peers and came up with solutions alongside the University of Sussex Senate.

Undergraduate dissertation topic: An Insight into the Gut Microbiota-Brain Axis and its Communication Pathways.

Masters dissertation topic: Is High Intensity Training better than Low Intensity Training for Increasing HRV (Heart Rate Variability) and Decreasing Stress?

  • Laboratory experience: Gained practical hands-on expertise in executing advanced Neuroscience experiments. Example work: Fluorescent Marking and Imaging Live Cells of Neonatal Mouse, Manipulating Bacterial Growth and Gene manipulation. 
  • Statistical analysis: Developed a profound understanding of data interpretation, providing essential skills to significantly contribute to research and data-driven advancements in the field. Utilised software such as SPPS, R Studio and Mat Lab.
  • Public speaking: Cultivated strong communication and public speaking skills. Through my undergraduate studies, I facilitated effective dissemination of complex scientific concepts and research findings, to both scientific and non-scientific audiences. Example presentations: Medical Ethics and The Future of Neuroimaging Techniques.
