• Provide technical advice for developing and implementing policy concerning competency standards, STCW and seafarer certification in accordance with international conventions and national requirements.
• Use technical background to assist with policy writing and support the Chief Examiner in solving complex technical problems concerning seafarer training and certification.
• Consult and collaborate with industry stakeholders such as the Merchant Navy Training Board, Chamber of Shipping and representatives, nautical colleges and other training establishments Overseas/ UK.
• Evaluate proposals for training courses presented to the MCA for approval and monitor approved training providers and colleges
• Promoting and ensuring that the UK (MCA's) seafarer training and certification standards and modernisation drive is achieved.
• Collaborate with other Examiners and Surveyors to address industry/seafarer technical queries and requirements for seafarers on UK ships, resolving training and certification issues to meet domestic and international obligations.
• Prepare briefing papers for IMO, ILO and other meetings as required by the Chief Examiner
• Represent the MCA at various domestic and international meetings as required.
Chief Officer (Jr.) - LNG Vessel – Worldwide Operation
