About Nancy Beum:
Throughout my career I have served a multitude of disabilities from severe, to learning and behavioral ones. I have worked with ESL students from age 5 years to 25 years. Knowing that each student is different and reflecting on my teaching, helps me to meet the students’ needs in their own particular way. I am creative and flexible in my teaching as I know every child is different and deserves the opportunity to succeed.
I love the challenge of bringing engagement and excitement to the students as they learn. I use different teaching methods such as kinaesthetic and auditory learning because each child has a learning method that suits him/her best. I believe that students should feel safe in their learning environments and have fun learning. As I continually reflect on what works and what doesn’t with my students, I change my approach and teaching so it can reach all students.
Having been involved in teaching the International Curriculum, I have been able to use these frameworks and requirements to create simple, effective and engaging lessons for my students. I have used assessments such as MAP testing, WIDA, Dibels math and literacy.
I have created IEPs and their objectives for special needs students, after collaboration with classroom teachers, speech, occupational therapists and parents to make sure the individual student’s needs are met and that the student is challenged to become more. This is a continuing process for me as I assess each student on a regular basis and adjust my teaching, or their accommodations to help them succeed.
I consider myself a lifelong learner and love to find new, up-to-date methods that will work for my students and enable me to become the best educator that I can. I believe growth is an important part of life and I make sure I am continually learning, whether it is in a school environment or in life.
I love new experiences and challenges and I believe I would be a great asset to your team.
Experience
I have 16 years working with all variety of disabilities such as Autism, Down's Syndrome, learning disabilities, cerebral palsy and many more. I use a hands on approach and reflect on my teaching to make sure the student is engaged in his learning. From 2014-2022, I worked at Qatar Foundation. There I taught small groups, from the ages of 5-13, plus adults up to age 25 English.
