Experience
I worked as a permanent class teacher at The Village School (SEN) from September 2021 till December 2025. I have worked at The Village School teaching Literacy, Numeracy, Science, History, Geography, RE and Preparation for Adulthood.
My role was to support a class of secondary school students with a range of special educational needs to learn and improve on all skills to achieve their optimum development. I achieved this through collaboration with parents and school administrators to develop and implement IEPs and EHCPs for students with special needs. I planned and delivered lessons, setting and marking assignments. I assessed students' strengths and weaknesses, set goals, and determined appropriate accommodations. I developed and fostered the appropriate skills and social abilities to enable the optimum development of students. I adapted teaching strategies, materials, and assessments to accommodate different learning styles and abilities. I regularly assessed students' progress towards their IEP goals and made data-driven instructional decisions. I monitored children’s behavioural patterns and arranged appropriate interventions if they were needed. I collaborated with teacher assistants, to effectively implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students. I collaborated with parents, and school professionals to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive support system for students. I prepared students for transition to the next phase of their lives whether that be going to college or moving up to the next year.
This was all achieved through classroom work as well as one to one learning and by undertaking trips for students to explore life outside of a school setting in order for them to build upon and learn new life skills.
I worked at Garston Manor School (SEN) from September 2014 till August 2021. My job title was a trainee teacher. I taught a range of subjects such as PE, Alternative Curriculum, Art, History and College links. I also taught and supported the students in their learning of Maths, English and Science. Additionally, I worked as a Cover Supervisor. My role was to support a range of secondary school students with special educational needs to learn and perform to achieve their best. This was done through classroom work as well as one to one learning. While at Garston Manor School I had received training in how best to help a wide variety of students with special educational needs, how to deal with students who have behavioural problems and certain medical conditions, I also received a first aid certificate, as well as certificates of training in intensive interaction, introduction to autism and e-safety. I also received a certificate in Child Safeguarding Training and a DBS Certificate. Additionally, I have attended training sessions where I learnt basic sign language.
