Pete Downey

I am a dedicated and experienced classroom assistant with a Level 3 Specialist Support Teaching and Learning (SSTL) qualification. I have a passion for supporting children’s learning and development, especially those with additional needs and special educational requirements.

I am skilled in delivering targeted support, adapting resources, and working collaboratively with teachers and SENCOs to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment. I am committed to helping every child reach their full potential and thrive in school.

I am looking for a role where I can contribute my experience, patience, and enthusiasm to support pupils’ learning and wellbeing.
 

During my placement I gained valuable experience supporting classroom learning, assisting with lesson delivery, and working closely with children across different abilities, including those with additional needs. Alongside this, I have coaching experience with children aged 4 - 13 in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, where I developed strong communication, patience, and leadership skills by mentoring children and young learners. These roles have strengthened my ability to motivate and support children’s personal and educational growth in both classroom and extracurricular settings.
 

I hold a Level 3 Specialist Support Teaching and Learning (SSTL) qualification, which has equipped me with practical skills to support children’s learning, including those with special educational needs. This qualification covers effective teaching strategies, behaviour management, and adapting learning activities to meet diverse needs. Additionally, my ongoing experience working in school placements has helped me apply this knowledge in real classroom settings.
