About Philip Gobvu:

Passionate Construction and Health & Safety Manager. Recently been working on the (East West Rail) Project, overseeing the H&S and Surveying teams. Before this role, I spent 4 years working for NatWest Group (Banking) as their UK-wide Safety, Health, and Risk Manager. In this role, I brought a wealth of experience gained from a wide range of construction sectors. Predominantly focusing on Health & Safety, I am a meticulous, confident, and conscientious individual with a professional outlook and a proven ability to drive cultural shifts and behaviour changes. I am currently looking for a new challenge in South Africa with an organisation that can benefit from my various skills in Construction Management, Safety Health & Wellbeing Management.

Suitability to the Role

I am a qualified BSc Construction Management graduate and H&S Manager with invaluable years of experience in the built industry working in varied construction site environments, covering a range of different project types and roles.

I have experience in rail, banking, education, retail, office fitouts, and housing sectors

I am passionate about adopting and improving Health and Safety Systems and working with site personnel to improve their working conditions. I have also worked previously as a Health and Safety Systems Developer, focusing on behavioural change and H&S technologies.

Outside work I enjoy Charity Work and giving to others and presently I am a Trustee for a faith-based charity, and in my previous role for NatWest Group I collaborated with Charities like the Lighthouse Construction Charity. I was also a member of the Wellbeing Implementation Committee, Risk Committee, and Disability Working Group for NatWest.

  • Full Understanding of all Duty Holder Roles
  • Assisting the client with ensuring that suitable management arrangements are made for the project (This may include the performance of design audits and construction site audits and inspections)
  • Identifying and collecting the pre-construction information and providing it in a convenient form to designers, the principal contractor, and other contractors.
  • Advising the client on the sufficiency of the time allocated for all phases of the project.
  • Ensuring that the design complies with the requirements of the regulations, including any designs undertaken by designers from other countries.
  • Ensuring that the designers and the principal/ Main contractor cooperate.
  • Assisting the client with verifying the sufficiency of the construction phase plan to commence construction and the adequacy of the welfare provisions.
  • Preparing the health and safety file or reviewing and updating an existing health and safety file and passing it to the client at the end of construction.

  • NEBOSH (TechIOSH) & Studying for a Diploma
  • BSc Construction Management

  • NVQ Level 5 OHS
