About Phoebe Ince-Green:
My name is Phoebe and I am a seasoned Support Worker with a special interest in teaching English as a Second Language.
My passion for teaching began when I volunteered at a local school as a teaching assistant, where I was able to help children with their educational and social development, both in and out of the classroom. My love for supporting children naturally guided me into the field of support work, and during my latest role I delivered wrap-around trauma informed support to individuals with multiple and complex issues. I regularly reviewed their person-centered support plans to adapt to their own personal needs and progress, and assisted clients with education and training opportunities, including English and language courses.
The support I was able to provide to a diverse group of individuals, together with some experience of teaching spoken and written English, has fueled a passion for making teaching English my career going forward. I value the importance of getting to know each student and understanding what their own personal expectations and objectives are, tailoring my lessons to target these needs and fueling their learning experience. I plan to approach every class with a fun and happy mindset, and will make discussion central to my classes. My ultimate goal is to make each class unforgettable, and to encourage students to find happiness in learning a new skill, personal growth, and lightbulb moments.
Experience
For the past 4 years I have worked in a variety of different support roles for St Mungo’s - a homelessness charity and housing association based in London.
My most recent role was as a Housing First Worker, where I managed a caseload of vulnerable adults (ages 18+) from a variety of cultural backgrounds. I was responsible for providing person-centered support to create long term, sustainable tenancies by increasing independence and connections within the local community. In my daily role I carried out keywork sessions, which enabled me to observe, assess, develop relationships, as well as identifying and resolving prospective problems. Establishing a positive support environment and rapport with each client was vital, ensuring that they felt supported throughout their recovery journey. Within this role, I would also frequently assist clients with attending the Recovery College - an inclusive learning, training and employment service, with a range of training opportunities, such as English, computer skills, and arts and crafts.
Prior to this, I was based in a mental health accommodation service as a Support Worker. A huge part of this role was undertaking initial assessments to establish whether individuals would respond well to our service, or signposting them to somewhere more appropriate. I coordinated and ran a weekly timetable of activities, including poetry, film club and creative writing classes. This enabled me to harness an ability to create the best conditions for learning, as well as developing a knowledge of teaching and designing courses. During my time here, I was also responsible for mentoring apprentices and students, which included carrying out inductions and providing regular one-to-one guidance.
The support I was able to provide to a diverse group of adults from all over the globe, required highly adaptive and crystal clear communication skills, together with some experience of teaching spoken and written English. This experience has given me a passion for making the teaching of English my career going forward. Additionally, I was able to further my knowledge by participating in a variety of training courses, including Emotional Intelligence and Resilience (BGPS), Complex Trauma (BGPS), Domestic Abuse, and Safeguarding Adults.
