I initially shadowed the supervisors to get used to everything and began by making fresh salads and sandwiches. After the first week I received training on the till and was then able to work front of house to provide customer service and handle cash. I was observed whilst making hot food and finally progressed to evening shifts, where I worked behind the bar during events and parties. I enjoyed this work and once again, working with the customers gave my confidence a boost.

As a trainee, I learned how to work the till, provide excellent customer service and prepare the clothes for the shop floor, which involved steaming. I had to learn the names of all the designer clothes, so that I was able to give the right information to customers. I also did many of the internal and window displays, as well as carry out stocktaking duties. Dealing with customers on my own improved my confidence and I enjoyed the experience.

I worked as part of the busy care home team to gain practical 'on the job' experience in a care environment.
