About Rebecca Horner:

I studied a diverse course at University, where I graduated with First Class Honors, which led me to develop an interest in an array of skills from radio programming, short film production, blogging, script writing and devising original performances.

I currently work as a case support worker within a women's Refuge, where I provide specialist practical and emotional support to survivors of domestic abuse and their children.

Whilst I am very proud of the work I do, I am looking to make a move to Norwich to be closer to family and would be interested in a role which would still allow me to work for a charitable organisation, with a more creative focus, away from the front line.

During my time with Refuge, I organised and hosted countless social events for service users, including Eid parties, Olympic Games and Galentine's Day Movie Nights, which admitedly were some of my favourite memories within the role.

I also created opportunities for myself to advocate and engage with external VAWG services in order to expand my knowledge and provide a portal for networking; including Westminster City Council's monthly co-production meeting and Standing Together's Focus Group for Improving Police responses to women experiencing violence.

I attended publicity stunts arranged by the company, such as the "1071 bad apples" installation set-up outside Scotland Yard and created fundraising opportunities, outside of work. I participated in the London2Brighton Ultra Challenge, where I walked 100km for Refuge and raised £2113 for the charity.

In hindsight, it is clear to me that though I enjoy my role and feel a great sense of pride, I realise I am always searching for ways to bring more intention and creativity into my work, which is why I seek a role which will fulfil this criteria.

Experience

Refuge Worker, Westminster Service

I work as a case support worker within a women's refuge, where I provide specialist practical and emotional support to survivors of domestic abuse and their children.

I oversee the maintenance of the house, completing health and safety checks in order to provide safe accommodation for women fleeing high risk DV.

I take referrals for potential clients and make decisive decisions to ensure that the service is a suitable fit for the individual.

I accurately record case work and implement safeguarding plans and tailor towards support needs - I ensure that clients understand their rights, assist in applications for housing, finance and immigration and signpost to relevant services where applicable.

I carry out risk assessments to minimise future dangers.

I participate in a monthly out-of-hours on call rota, where I am the first port-of-call for any emergencies for all refuges within the Westminster borough.

Shift Leader / Supervisor, Hilton London Syon Park

I supervised the operation of the reception team within a world renown hotel chain to ensure exceptional customer service. I interacted with guests and contributed towards their first impressions.

I accurately and efficiently followed check-in/out procedures.

I supported my team in handling requests and enquiries to ensure the best outcomes for staff and clients.

I ensured managers from every department were updated on any relevant feedback and handover information on events or VIP guests arriving or staying at the hotel .

I drove sales revenues and promoted hotel services, up-selling opportunities including breakfast sales, dining and use of the spa facilities.

I demonstrated positive leadership and trained my team with my most current knowledge of room categories, rates, packages, promotions and the local area; necessary to perform their duties

I received a Newcomer Award for my service, in particular for ownership and displaying the Hilton Values.

Private Childminder

I cared for eight to ten little ones, whose ages varied between 10 months and 2 years old .

My routine consisted of taking the children to the park, assisting in their feeding three meals a day, keeping up general hygiene and nappy changes, as well as encouraging their early development, through arts and crafts, music, story telling and play.

I noted observations in the children’s personal growth, paying attention to changes in interests, speech, movement and relationships

Digital Illustrator / Events Stylist, Becca's Scribbles / Boho Brides

I assembled a portfolio of creative work comprising of commissioned digital portraits, creating custom digital artwork.

I was commissioned to envision ideas and fulfil concepts on wedding photoshoots for local event businesses, sourcing and collaborating with vendors and models.

My work featured across a two-page spread in the September/October issue of Destination Weddings & Honeymoons Abroad (DWHA) magazine, which was sold in Harrods, Selfridges, WHSmith and Tesco stores across the UK.

Sales Assistant / Bra Fit Specialist / Merchandiser, Debenhams / Nice Things

I have worked in sales within an independent homeware/gift boutique as well as a large nationwide retail store.

I maintained an organised inventory and curated displays of rotating seasonal clothing, accessories and homeware.

I anticipated customer needs and provided them with tailored, quality service while upholding brand standards and values.

I meticulously handled POS system transactions, including credit, cash, gift and loyalty cards and promotions, refunds, exchanges and returns to ensure seamless flow, whilst staying informed about latest sales, offerings and loyalty programs.

Youth Arts Festival Co-Ordinator / Performer, Rawffest

I handled participant applications and scouted for event spaces.

I guided and helped guests, particularly those struggling with accessibility, through the venue and booked them into workshops and activities.

I devised an original sensory theatre performance based on the seaside town of Llandudno, North Wales, where festivalgoers were guided into a darkened performance space blindfolded, and experienced the sounds, scents and sensations associated with the town and seafront. The performance was labelled “the highlight of the festival” by co-ordinator, Ruth Garnault.

Events Assistant, Dylan's Restaurant

I worked from the office to create ideas for upcoming festivals and ensured events ran smoothly, through constant communication with the Dylan's team.

I held contact with important suppliers and contacts through email correspondence and telephone calls and kept an updated personal and shared teams calendar.

Tour Guide / Public Speaker, Prifysgol Bangor

I worked as a tour guide on behalf of my university, touring parents and potential students on open-days and sixth form conferences - I answered questions, provided speeches, information and recommendations as part of the School of Creative Studies and Media
