About Roberto Chander:

I have completed my first year at Sandwell College and got my degree in Level 3 Advanced Technical in Animal Management. I am seeking long-term part-time work where I can put the gained knowledge of animals to beneficial use. I wish to improve the welfare and care of animals and I believe that can be achieved by providing owners/customers with the best attention and recommendations to ensure their pets are well provided for.

Experience

Sandwell College Animal Room Sep 2023 - Ongoing

I cared for a broad range of species. These species include snakes, lizards, invertebrates (snails, Madagascar cockroaches, stick insects and tarantulas), rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, rats, mice, hedgehogs, tenrecs, tortoises, fish, axolotl and more. I am responsible for cleaning enclosures, preparing food, performing routine health checks, and documenting all findings and concerns, bathing and grooming and maintaining the environment of the animal room to ensure efficiency and safety.

Forge Mill Farm Sep 2023 - Ongoing

Here I muck out pens, refill pens with straw/hay, collect eggs. I’ve learnt how to work around animals at a fast and safe pace, performing health checks to check for diseases, injuries or any other concerns. I care for sheep, pigs, rabbits, chickens, horses, ponies, llamas, cows, goats, ducks and more. These also include different ages such as newborn offspring.

Horse Groom at Berkshire Riding Centre Aug 22nd 2023 – 7th May 2023

I performed a range of duties from mucking out stables, learning to ride horses, prepared horses for riding lessons, assisted in horse riding lessons. This was fast-paced work environment and very physically demanding but this sort of work sorted me. I had to make sure things were completed quickly and properly as negligence could result in severe injury and poor representation of the school.

Volunteer At Solihull Riding Club 9th – 10th March 2023

I did a six-week course to get my level 1 in racing horse care under retired jockey Dom Elsworth and Ryan Hatch. Here is where I learnt about caring for horses, mucking out stables, how to lead horses, preparing them for riding and performing health checks. After I finished my six weeks course, I continued to volunteer during my spare time and helped with future groups, until I went off to the national stud and finally found work at Berkshire Riding School. I performed well at these places and was chosen to contribute to interviews for TV and Radio to discuss the courses respectfully.

Off To Work Casual Worker 13th Sep 2022 – 14th May 2023

  • I was enlisted to work in a variety of venues throughout Birmingham. I performed distinct roles during this time. These roles included:
Bartender/Barback – I received bartender training. I worked at venues such as grand hotel and town hall of Birmingham, for events involving hundreds of people. I oversaw making drinks, managing the till, ensuring drinks were stocked and keeping all areas clean.
  • Wine Waitering/Waitering – This involved setting up the venue with pristine detail. I served at reception to guests and customers at large events and spent long hours serving tables, which involved answering questions, getting ordered drinks, ensuring payment, and clearing up the venue and preparing for tomorrow’s event.
  • General Assistance – This had a heavy focus on keeping venues presentable and safe. This included stock rotation, working tills, porter role, serving food, taking customer orders, assisting with deliveries, and setting up for present and future events.

Obligatory Catering Staff Commonwealth Games 8th – 11th Aug 2022

I worked in teams to assemble boxes for VIP members. These boxes all must be filled with a set of items and distinct categories of alcoholic, soft drinks, and dietary requirements. This required fast paced work, elevated levels of teamwork and communication, planning and organization to complete before deadlines. After the thousands of boxes were created, we will immediately after needed to provide customer service, providing information of the contents of the boxes, to ensure customers got the ideal one.

Content Writer/Graphic Designer 20th Dec 2021 – 28th Feb 2022

I worked for a motivational speaker, researching range of information, and condensing it down in a way that a range of audiences could understand. I worked with different mediums, such as newsletters, flyers, social media posts and videos, all original pieces.

Volunteer Teaching Assistant Phoenix Collegiate 2017

I prepared lessons and taught students’ years 7-10 in a range of subjects. I also provided tour guides to parents and lost/newer students as well as problematic students. I volunteered extra time after school to help with after-school homework club, which had a focus on students with learning difficulties and disabilities.

DPD Postal Company 2015

I was chosen in a small selection of students who undertook a week’s work experience at DPD Postal Company. During this time, we took the time to explore the company’s different departments, which included customer services (listening to calls of customers asking questions and handling complaints), marketing, manager’s role, vehicle maintenance and technological maintenance.
