As my journey continued, I evolved into a Subject Matter Expert (SME), where I provided valuable support to management and colleagues alike. Rethink Mental Illness Crisis House – Sheffield
During my second year of studying Psychology, I embraced an invaluable opportunity to embark on a placement at ReThink Sheffield Crisis House. This pivotal experience significantly shaped my career trajectory. Immersed in the dynamic mental health crisis intervention environment, I gained first-hand insight into the complexities of working in this sector.
My role at Crisis House was multifaceted, involving the provision of therapeutic recovery in a nurturing environment for individuals experiencing mental health crises. From offering intensive emotional support to facilitating practical assistance, I aimed to equip service users with coping strategies to navigate their current challenges and prevent future crises. In addition to engaging in direct support, my responsibilities encompassed administrative tasks such as helpline management, admission and discharge paperwork, and liaising with mental health professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
Throughout my placement, I honed my communication skills by effectively liaising with stakeholders and actively listening to the needs of service users. Cultivating empathy and a non-judgmental approach was paramount in fostering an environment of trust and openness. This experience instilled in me a deep sense of compassion and drive to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others.
Drawing from my academic background in Psychology, I leveraged theoretical knowledge to develop tailored support plans and conduct risk assessments with precision and critical thinking.
