About Shaneisia Afonso :
I spent two years studying Travel & Tourism at Level 3. But when my second year was up, I made the decision to go study law. I was motivated to pursue a law apprenticeship because it gives you the opportunity to learn about a broad range of topics, providing a chance to gain a wide range of skills. This piqued my interest in studying law because I observed the impact that one person's decision might have on the lives of others. I am self-motivated with a strong focus on quality, details, and high standards.
Experience
I worked part-time at a busy neighbourhood restaurant, where I was based in a bustling kitchen. Working has given me more confidence and enabled me to develop strong communication and teamwork skills, and the capacity to operate under pressure. More recently, my work with ‘Young Professionals’ has allowed me to explore the legal field in more depth. With a group of other young adults, I discussed and debated about the common legal issues and crimes against justice, such as perjury or delivering false evidence under oath. This developed my knowledge of these issues. I have acted as a school representative, where I was assigned the tasks of welcoming, informing, and assisting prospective students. The experience taught me the value of responsibility as the school's reputation was being placed in the hands of myself and my peers.
Education
From my current Level 3 BTEC Travel and Tourism course, I have learnt that travel and tourism laws protect more than just travellers' rights. The travel and tourism industry is closely interlinked with and regulated by law as its goal is to protect natural resources and community culture, while at the same time protecting travel consumer rights. My travel course also taught me how the legal system helps to ensure that both the seller and the buyer of goods and services are protected from unfair, illegal, and unsafe practises. Employment laws, consumer protection laws, contract law, and tort law help to ensure that both the seller and the buyer of goods and services are protected.
