- Accurately entering patient data onto the computer LIMS system.
- Alongside the specimen reception supervisor, I lead a team of twenty-four individuals, in order to ensure the department at UHCW runs effectively and efficiently. Within this role, I assist in ensuring that the service at the City of Coventry Health Centre (CoCHC), in the laboratory, is covered, ensuring adequate cover for service across the sites, which will enable an efficient and effective delivery of services across the network.
- Gained key leadership skills and learnt to become more patient and understanding of others, as this role has given me the responsibility to communicate instructions, delegate tasks, listen to any questions my team have about sample processing, in order to deliver an excellent service for patient care.
- In addition, I communicate with the management teams, biomedical scientists and clinical scientists of the various departments in blood sciences, in order to ensure that the blood sciences department runs effectively each day and make effective changes promptly during downtime, in order to maintain an effective pre-analytical service.
- As every shift poses new challenges, this experience taught me how to work in a fast-paced environment and deal with situations under pressure, in order to make key decisions about sample processing, in order to ensure turnaround times are efficient.
- I have gained skills and experience in performing to a high standard, to ensure staff comply with their key performance indicators (KPI's), as well as completing audits for the department and undertaking staff competency assessments.
- I have demonstrated problem solving skills, where I have participated in rectifying errors and queries with an investigation of the incidents and complaints, and I have escalated during huddles and provided a clear action plan to reduce or eliminate recurrence within my team.
- Gained key responsibility and organisational skills whilst working within the specimen reception team, as I have been able to rota staff to specific tasks each day, run specimen reception on my own and give local inductions and train new members of staff on all of the various specimen reception processes.
- Attending various meetings to discuss and give feedback to staff about where improvements can be made. This included how improvements can be made for inputting patient and specimen data for important specialised samples and discussing where improvements can be made for the sample processing workflow in blood sciences.
- Cascade trainer for the use of laboratory software within specimen reception department.
- Leading specimen reception team during the organisational changes in blood sciences, with the implementation of new analytical equipment.
