About Sian Vincent Venables:
An enthusiastic biology masters graduate passionate about nature in all its forms, as well as its protection, conservation and ultimately proliferation. I’m committed and driven to improve wildlife outcomes using my grounding in biological theory and practice, offering my extensive knowledge of biological research and my field study experience to date. I pride myself in my spoken communication and problem-solving skills, together with a number of artistic qualities which enhance my approach to all challenges encountered.
Experience
From my 3 research assistant roles, two of which were abroad, I have developed a dynamic and flexible approach to my work, as things do not always go to plan when out in the field! Time keeping, organisation and problem-solving became essential skills of mine. My love for the outdoors and wildlife, combined with these experiences, means that I feel comfortable with spending large amounts of time both in a lab or out in the elements (despite lots of physical exertion and harsh weather conditions), and I feel confident in travelling/working alone and far from home.
I feel much of my work experience has helped me to develop important interpersonal and communication skills required for a wide range of jobs. For example, working 4 years at Marches Family Network, I gained extensive experience of working with young adults with a wide range of learning disabilities (within an all-inclusive environment free from discrimination), as well as regularly providing collegiate support to new volunteers. The qualities I gained were also developed during my role as a Lab Demonstrator (and marker) in year 2 biology practicals at the University of Bristol, and as a fundraising caller for Macmillan cancer charity.
Education
Master of Science by Research in Biology (University of Bristol - 2020-2022) with my paper being published in Science Advances. From this, I have gained considerable experience in gathering data, risk assessment, interpretation/analysis of results, field report-writing, scientific planning and reasoning, experimental design and research methodology.
