Sonia Talhadas

A dedicated, personable, and collaborative graduate student of Social Psychology, searching to develop experience in the field of psychological support and education. Prepared to apply my upstanding communication skills in future employment and feel confident and motivated to collaborate with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. An opportunity to expand my experience will be complementary to my ongoing education in an MA degree in Interdisciplinary Psychology. 

Having spent the last 9 months working alongside young people who live with special educational needs (such as ASD, ADHD, and other physical and cognitive disadvantages) I feel prepared to progress into a career that will allow me to further take part in supporting and working together with vulnerable individuals. My previous experience has allowed me to develop healthy and respectful boundaries, patience in all circumstances, and adapting my communication to specific circumstances. Aditionally, previous work experience has given me the opportunity to develop experience in working both within a team and 1:1,  which I believe will be incredibly useful in a mental health supportive role.

Having studied an Undergraduate degree in Social Psychology, followed by an MA degree in Interdisciplinary Psychology, I feel prepared to use the skills I have developed throughout the past 4 years. I have carried out research and have developed a strong interest in compassion-based support and humanistic approaches to therapy, as I believe these approaches can be transformative both for those who require support, as well as for those who have a passion to work in these fields.  As a person who has overcome personal struggles with severe social anxiety and low self-esteem, I am very thoughtful and conscientious towards those confronting such issues. Furthermore, I am passionate about the positive impact that listening and understanding can provide towards these difficulties, and I believe this is a key element that must be prioritized in such an important role.
