About Sophie Riordan:
Educated to degree level, with almost two years’ experience in communications roles. Highly literate with strong attention to detail. Good planning and marketing skills. Familiar with a range of software, including WordPress and other content management systems, and the Adobe Creative Suite.
My current role within the Charity Sector, as Communications Officer, has provided me with valuable experience. As part of my role, I have implemented and managed all digital and social media platforms across the charity including promoting and raising awareness of all aspects of the charity’s services and support, trading, and fundraising. Pro-actively planned, organised, and implemented key campaigns throughout the year such as Carers Week, Carers Rights Day, and Young Carers Awareness Day. Designed and published the charity’s 6 monthly magazine and monthly e-bulletins. Whilst also organising and attending outreach and activities across the communities of East Lancashire. Additionally, it allows me to interact with the unpaid carers on a personal level, hearing their experiences and struggles which I then implemented as part of my campaigns which subsequently aimed to both support and attract further carers.
My 6 months working as Web Content Administrator also provided me with valuable experience, offering an insight into the industry. As part of this role, I enhanced both communication and practical skills, working alongside IT/developers to ensure Race FX’s websites met the needs of the organisation. It also involved creating spreadsheets to upload new products on in-house websites, whilst identifying gaps and redundancies in the site content.
Additionally, alongside my studies I undertook a summer role working for the NHS at the Manchester Royal Infirmary undertaking various roles as part of the Estates and Facilities department. As part of this role, I developed strong communication abilities fostering key critical thinking and teamwork skills.
