Education
The title of my Ph.D. dissertation was “Study of genetic gain in wheat for abiotic stress tolerance I estimated the genetic gain of wheat using 24 elite Pakistani wheat cultivars. I have also worked on the genetic diversity of 512 wheat landraces by genotyping by sequencing (GBS) and also examined the environmental GWAS. Additionally, I used carbon isotope discrimination to study the relationship to other agronomically important traits in rain-fed areas. In addition, I spent six months (June 18, 2018 to December 11, 2018) as an international intern (at the Gore Lab) under the supervision of Dr. Michael Gore, Professor of Plant Breeding and Genetics Section, School of Integrative Plant Science, Cornell University, Ithaca, USA. During my internship, I investigated the extent of phenotypic variation in a diverse panel of 24 Pakistani wheat cultivars evaluated for traits related to plant productivity, including yield and its components. I had also performed high-throughput phenotyping of the wheat diversity panel using two instruments, Crop Circle Phenom and multispeQ. Measurements collected by the Phenom included canopy temperature and vegetation indices, while the multispeQ simultaneously measured multiple photosynthetic phenotypes. In addition to hands-on training in plant phenotyping methods, I also developed proficiency in the R programming language and wrote my own R code for statistical analysis of wheat phenotype dataset using mixed linear models to estimate genetic gain for the selected traits. I also estimated the GE interactions for the selected traits using the AMMI (Additive Main Effects and Multiplicative Interaction) model.
